Chapter 22 Relief
Natalia asked with concern, “Charlotte, what’s wrong?”
Charlotte managed to reply after a long time, “I’m okay.”
She added, “I wanna take a rest. Go do your thing.”
Natalia did have errands and couldn’t stay in the dorm long, so she said, “Okay, I gotta go. Call me if you need anything.”
After confirming that Charlotte was fine, Natalia left the dorm.
Alone, Charlotte sank into complicated emotions.
Pregnant? She kept asking herself, clutching her collar tighter.
Fear was her first instinct.
After dropping Charlotte off, Malcolm didn’t immediately leave. He sat in the car for over half an hour before driving away.
The next day, Charlotte remained absent–minded. She didn’t have the courage to go to the hospital for a checkup. In the class, she didn’t catch what the teacher was saying.
At lunch, Natalia frowned at her untouched food and asked with concern, “Charlotte, you sure you’re okay? Your face is as white as at sheet today.”
Charlotte had barely eaten anything since yesterday.
She shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Charlotte tried to cat some food, but Natalia still looked at her
worriedly.
Resting in her dorm at noon, Charlotte picked up her phone several times, thinking of texting Malcolm to say she might be pregnant, but in the end, she put it down.
On the third day, Charlotte went to the cafeteria with Natalia. On the way, she felt dizzy and lost consciousness, falling to the ground.
The last thing she heard was Natalia saying, “Charlotte…”
Charlotte passed out.
Meanwhile, Malcolm was having a meeting. In the middle of it, he received a call and said, “Okay. I got it. I’ll be right there.”
He rose abruptly from his chair, and all the senior executives stared at him, not knowing what was going on.
Without explanation, he said to his secretary, “Adjourn the meeting.” He hurried out of the conference room.
Malcolm headed straight to the clinic after he got to Charlotte’s school.
Natalia was chatting with Charlotte at this moment. When she heard the noises at the door, she looked up. “Mr. Bautista.”
Charlotte had just woken up and didn’t know whom Natalia had informed. When she heard Natalia greeting Malcolm, she looked up and saw him at the door. She was taken aback.
Malcolm stood there in a tailored suit. When he saw her pale face, he paused for a while before entering the room.
Chapter 27
Natalia rose from the chair and greeted him respectfully, “Mr. Bautista.”
She was nervous to see him come. When Charlotte fainted, Natalia didn’t know whom she should contact. Thinking of Charlotte’s relationship with Malcolm, she called her dad and asked him to
contact Malcolm.
Malcolm went up to the bedside and said to Natalia, “Thanks for taking care of Charlotte.”
Natalia waved her hand quickly. “It’s okay. Mr. Bautista, Charlotte threw up. The doctor gave her IV fluids.”
Knowing she had vomited, Malcolm fixed his eyes on Charlotte, who clutched the mattress hard without looking at him.
His face hardened slightly.
“Okay. Thank you. I’ll take Charlotte to the hospital. Go back to your class.”
Natalia couldn’t stay long. She nodded and left.
The room was silent except for curtains rustling in the breeze.
Charlotte looked weak, not raising her drooping head.
Malcolm asked, “When did you throw up?”
Charlotte knew the moment she dreaded had finally come. She closed her eyes and said in a choked voice, “Two days ago.”
He asked coolly, “Any other symptoms?”
Chapter 22 Rebel
“My period is late.”
Charlotte’s voice was hardly audible.
“Go to the hospital for a checkup.”
Charlotte lowered her head and said, “Okay.”
Malcolm bent slightly and asked, “Can you walk?”
“Yes.”
She swung her legs down and swayed violently. Malcolm quickly caught her with his hands.
When Charlotte fell into his arms, she was frightened. They were at the school.
Thankfully, Malcolm quickly released her and supported her with his arms, looking down at her. “Steady now?”
Charlotte nodded slightly.
Malcolm drove her away from campus. Along the way, Charlotte sat beside him, her mind racing.
She couldn’t tell if she was relieved or burdened. Perhaps she felt more pain.
As Malcolm drove, he glanced at her with a hint of depression. He looked away and fixed his
and fixed his eyes ahead.
Silence fell upon the car until they reached the hospital where he accompanied her through endless checkups.
Following that, they waited in the hallway. Meanwhile, Malcolm strode off to the smoking area, leaving Charlotte alone to wonder how he felt.
Perhaps he was hopeful or relieved like her.
Peering toward the smoking area, Charlotte only spotted his expressionless side face.
She stood there, feeling utterly depressed.
After finishing a cigarette, Malcolm came back around ten minutes later and went up to Charlotte.
She asked. “Shall we tell Danielle?”
He said coldly, “Let’s wait for the results.”
Charlotte’s face remained as white as a sheet, and she felt tired.
“Danielle and you will be relieved if I’m pregnant.”
Malcolm looked at her without saying a word.
Five minutes later, the doctor emerged.
Charlotte was rooted to the ground nervously, too frightened to listen to the results or get near. She was afraid to learn the results, positive or negative.
Malcolm went up to the doctor and asked calmly, “Well?”
The doctor held the report and said, “She’s not pregnant. Just gastritis and extreme stress.”
Chapter
As the doctor’s words sank in, Charlotte’s body relaxed abruptly, and
she opened her eyes.
