Chapter 25 Her Attitude
Charlotte decided to do anything to pay him back if he could do her this favor.
She pleaded. “Can you help him avoid going to jail or leaving a criminal record? I can’t bear to see his future ruined.”
Malcolm looked at her face and felt she was on the verge of collapsing.
He flipped the lighter in his hand. “You should know this isn’t easy to solve. And he’s just joined the Bautista Group.”
His face seemed somewhat indifferent.
Hearing his words, Charlotte had a bad feeling.
“I… I know.”
She stayed quiet for a while.
Malcolm asked, “Do young people all like to ruin their own future?”
Charlotte’s face paled, and her lips kept trembling. “Mal, please help Humberto. I can do anything, as long as you help him.”
Malcolm stared at her meaningfully. “For the sake of Humberto, is there anything you wouldn’t do?”
For the moment, Charlotte couldn’t understand what he meant. She appeared even more servile.
She was imploring him. How could Malcolm not get it?
His face clouded with gloom, he said to his driver, “Find out who he has offended.”
The driver immediately answered, “OK, Mr. Bautista.”
Then, he got out of the car and made calls. Silence reigned in the car. One was quiet and the other was expressionless.
About five or six minutes later, the driver got back into the car and said, “The man Humberto offended is the second son of the chairman of the Unicorn Group.
Hearing that, Malcolm asked, “What does he want?”
The driver hesitated for a while and replied, “Nothing. He just wanted Humberto to go to jail.”
Charlotte bit her nails into her palms hard, causing her palms to bleed.
Malcolm looked at her.
Charlotte didn’t know what else she could say. Having a fever last night had been a lot for her body. Now, such a shock was undoubtedly tremendous for her. Her eyelashes kept trembling and her face looked even more submissive.
There was nothing she could do. She couldn’t turn to her family but to him.
Malcolm withdrew his eyes from her and said to the driver, “Contact my secretary and tell her to talk about this with the chairman of the Unicorn Group.”
The driver replied, “OK.”
Then, he went away to make a call.
Malcolm said, “I’ve got this. I’ll try to handle this well. OK?”
Charlotte didn’t expect he’d actually help her. For the moment, she didn’t know how to express her gratitude. She could only utter two words, “Thank you.”
Malcolm didn’t look at her or reply to her.
Almost an hour later, the driver came back and said to Malcolm, “Mr. Bautista, it’s settled. He’ll be released the day after tomorrow.”
Charlotte didn’t know such big trouble would be solved so fast. Her fingers moved a bit.
Malcolm slightly frowned. “Hmm. You’ll deal with the rest then.”
“OK, Mr. Bautista.”
Charlotte felt like she was in a dream. She didn’t know what condition the victim had raised, and what Malcolm had offered to erase this quickly.
Malcolm didn’t mention a word about it at all.
Charlotte relaxed all over and thought she might as well not ask about it. Since she didn’t ask, she could feign ignorance. After all, she could never pay it off.
“Mal, I’ll do whatever you ask me to do from now on…”
Charlotte meant what she said. As her eyelashes drooped, the shadows under her eyes appeared even darker.
Malcolm said. “I suppose you’re not in the mood for class. Go have an IV drip in the hospital. You can also spend some time with your
sister.”
Charlotte still expressed her thanks to Malcolm.
The car left the school for the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, Charlotte was taken for an IV drip. The hospital was where Danielle stayed. Danielle learned that Charlotte wasn’t feeling well and called Malcolm. telling him she wanted to come over. Malcolm didn’t let her come.
Danielle didn’t insist then.
After Malcolm and Danielle finished a call, Charlotte was lying in bed with a high fever. She hadn’t noticed that before or felt sick. If she hadn’t been taken to the hospital, she wouldn’t even know her condition.
Malcolm got up from the sofa and walked to her. “Are you feeling
better?”
Charlotte didn’t want to bring trouble to him anymore. “Mal, you don’t need to stay here. I’ll go back after the IV drip is done.”
Malcolm stared at her. “Are you sure?”
Charlotte was sure. “Yes, I am.”
Feeling that she was absent–minded and worried, Malcolm sat in the chair by her bedside. He approached her face and whispered to her ear, “Is he that important to you? You’d do anything for his sake?”
Charlotte felt somewhat oppressed.
She bit her lips hard.
Malcolm stared at the bite marks on her lips.
Charlotte mumbled. “Yes. very important. He could have a bright future before he was with me. I don’t want him to destroy his future because of me
Malcolm looked indifferent. It was hard to tell how he felt.

Danielle was in a ward upstairs. She still wanted to check on Charlotte and figure out what on earth had happened. She could sense something unusual from Malcolm’s voice, so she asked her nurse to help take her downstairs. She got to Charlotte’s ward and stopped at the door.
Danielle happened to see Malcolm sitting by Charlotte’s bed and staring at her. The two of them seemed to be talking, but didn’t move at all.
Danielle called, “Malcolm!”
The moment Malcolm heard Danielle’s voice, he looked up at the door. For an instant, Charlotte was startled awake. She flinched backward and clenched the bedsheet.
Danielle stood at the door and watched the two of them.
Malcolm just looked at Danielle calmly and asked in a gentle voice, “What brought you here?”
He tucked Charlotte in before rising from the chair.
