Chapter 8 The Third Time
Malcolm and Charlotte kissed for quite a while before he finally let go. of her lips.
Then he asked, “Feel better?”
Feeling a bit shy, she remained silent. She was still unprepared and didn’t know how to answer him.
He waited patiently, not forcing her into saying anything.
Their unsteady breaths still tangled together.
“Charlotte?” he said after a few seconds.
Moonlight streamed through the car window, illuminating their faces, making his features even more striking.
He pressed the tip of his straight nose against one side of her nose, saying. “Don’t be afraid, OK?”
He was practically coaxing her.
Then he continued to wait for her response for a long time while holding her body. After that, he tried to kiss her lips again, but she immediately tilted her face to dodge.
He ended up kissing her earlobe.
Neither moved.
At this precise moment, all she could think of was Humberto.

Malcolm seemed to sense this.
She asked, “We agreed that after I give birth, I can raise the baby, right?”
Maybe she was just trying to find an excuse to justify what they were doing.
He said. “Yes.”
She closed her eyes.
In the next second, veins bulged at both of their temples.
After everything became quiet again, Malcolm picked up Charlotte’s dress from the car floor and draped it over her bare back.
In their haste, they had forgotten to switch on the heater, and the car was freezing. She snuggled up to him, greedily drawing any warmth she could get.
He closed his eyes, resting his chin in the crook of her neck. His hands. holding her dress tightened bit by bit as he held her in his arms.
“It’s done, right?” she asked in a muflled voice.
“Yes.”
Just then, the phone next to his right foot rang, and they both looked down while holding each other.
It was Charlotte’s phone, with Humberto’s name flashing on the screen.
Chapter & The Third Time
She had blocked him before, and for some reason, she unblocked him later. It was his first call since.
Both Charlotte and Malcolm stared at Humberto’s name.
After Humberto’s call automatically hung up, Marlene called her.
She knew Marlene wanted to ask her how things went, so she slid her legs away from his suit–clad thigh and settled her feet next to his.
Malcolm let go of his hands, and she went to the passenger seat to put on her clothes.
They both ignored the two calls.
After quite a long while, Malcolm said, “I’ll take you home now. OK?”
Charlotte had already sat in the passenger seat, dressed fully. She nodded with her legs pressed together, her posture perfectly proper.
When they arrived at the Townsend’s home, it was already 2:00 a.m.
Charlotte walked into the main hall, exhausted. Upon seeing her, Marlene walked up to her anxiously and asked, “Did Malcolm take you back?”
Not having the strength to say anything, she nodded.
Marlene’s gaze on her was complicated. Noticing the fatigue on her face, Marlene said calmly, “OK. Go upstairs and get some rest.”
Being stared at like this gave Charlotte goosebumps, but she was so beat that she couldn’t even think.
Feeling sticky all over, all she wanted was to go upstairs and take a

shower.
After she entered the room. Marlene knocked on the door. “Charlotte, don’t take a shower.”
Charlotte was just about to pull open the bathroom door, and her hand froze. Then she slowly dropped it.
“OK.” she said and turned back to the room.
