Chapter 21
Hearing this Bailey nearly laughed out lood
“Are you going to tell me I look like his previous wife?” Bailey picked up her latte, taking a sip with perfect composure. “So what if I do? This is simply how I look–I can’t suddenly change my appearance.”
Stella was taken aback
She had investigated Renee Mitchell–middle–class background, impressive education, and a protective cousin backing her
She had assumed this privileged young woman was simply blinded by love, hence her attraction to Alexander.]]
But now, things seemed beyond her expectations.
“You don’t care about this?” Stella demanded. “He has no genuine feelings for you. His kindness toward you stems solely from guilt toward another woman. Doesn’t that bother you at all?“]
Bailey smiled.
Her former self would certainly have cared deeply
But for her current self, emotions were the least relevant factor–merely weapons for her revenge.
“Miss Rivera, forgive my directness, but love is something only women of your standing carefully consider,” Bailey lowered her gaze, stirring her coffee, her voice soft. “But for me, social compatibility and mutual respect matter most.“]
“Alexander’s father once married a Hayes woman, as you know. Now, his interest in pursuing me, seeking to repair relations with the Hayes family, makes perfect sense. Why should I object?‘
Stella abruptly stood up: “You already have everything–family background, education–you could find a suitable man without complicated emotional baggage. Why fight me for him?
Bailey observed her fury with growing satisfaction.
“Miss Rivera, someone like you was never on Alexander’s list of potential wives,” she gave Stella her most contemptuous look. “Even after bearing his son, he would never marry you.”
“IfI were you, I wouldn’t antagonize his love interest right now. After all, if I marry Alexander, we’ll naturally have children. As for you and your son, your lifestyle, monthly allowance, and what school Evan attends will depend entirely on how generous I feel, won’t it?“]
Stella was completely provoked.
She jumped up, preparing to throw coffee in Bailey’s face
However, Bailey was prepared.
Her bodyguards had been watching carefully. Seeing Stella about to attack, a guard rushed over, pinning Stella to the ground.
“Let me go! Let go!” Stella struggled futilely. “You man stealing slut! Don’t think marrying into wealth guarantees security. In a couple of years when Alexander loses interest in you, you’ll see how I destroy your
Bailey’s heart skipped a beat []
She suddenly realized this night have been exactly Stella’s mindset when Bailey first married Alexander–waiting for his interest to fade before using the child to replace her
Bailey remembered Stella’s staged injury in Evan’s hospital room []
She recalled overhearing Stella bragging to her friend at the estate. Evan had never been sick–Stella had merely wanted to kill her baby, making Evan pretend to be
Hatred surged through her like a tidal wave. She slowly poured her unfinished coffee over Stella’s head
“Ah! You birch Stella thrashed like a wet dog.
Bailey grabbed her hair, staring directly into her eyes.[]
“Just because you were born rich? What’s there to be proud of Stella’s hatred was palpable.
Bailey dropped the cup, letting it shatter at her feet, then picked up a sharp ceramic shard and viciously dragged it down Stella’s face
“Don’t you love playing the victim for men?” She gripped Stella’s hair as the woman screamed, leaning down to whisper menacingly in her ear: “Now go find Alexander with this face. I’m curious to see his reaction.”
