Chapter 9
Just as I was about to call him insane, Lucille stepped out from the back of the car.
With a reluctant sigh, she took off the large diamond ring from her finger and casually shoved it into the heart–shaped box. She looked at me with. an innocent expression and said, “Whitney, I heard you aborted the child. How could you be so impulsive?
“Caleb and I are just soulmates. You’re the one he truly loves.
“Please don’t let me affect your relationship again.”
Soulmates? Hah!
After a moment of staring into Caleb’s eyes, I said calmly, “Give me the ring.”
He smiled in relief and instantly released my hand.
He pulled the ring out and eagerly tried to place it on my finger, but I immediately took it off and walked over to Lucille. Without hesitation, I grabbed her neck and shoved the ring into her mouth, where only insults. seemed to come out.
No one expected me, the usually calm one, to react with such force and cruelty when truly enraged.
I even wondered if I wanted to seriously harm Lucille.
Lucille, with her thin frame, stared at me with wide eyes, unable to move my hand from her mouth.
“Ugh! Help, help… I can’t breathe…”
The suffocating sensation, caused by the sharp object, made Lucille’s face flood with tears and snot in no time.
Trying to help her get out of danger quickly, I ‘kindly‘ slapped her across the face with both hands, hitting her over and over with loud, sharp smacks.
I kept hitting her until her face puffed up and she started to feel dizzy. Then, I gave her a hard kick right in the stomach.
That kick was payback for her letting the snakes go loose; she tried to scare me into having a miscarriage
Lucille’s stomach was badly bruised from the kick. She collapsed on the ground, sweating from the pain. With her hair messy and tangled, she threw up a few times before finally spitting out the diamond ring along with some half–digested food.
“Whitney, you lunatic… I’m calling the cops for assault!”
Lucille shot me a hateful look through her tears before turning and trying to throw herself into Caleb’s arms, crying and pleading for him to call the police.
But to her shock, he only gave her a disgusted look and shoved her away.
Instead of helping her, he coldly complained that she had ruined the engagement ring he had picked with care.
Lucille was completely stunned.
Still dazed from the slaps, her ears still ringing, she barely caught Caleb’s soft, almost pleading voice. “Whitney, I know you’re a germaphobe. This ring’s been tainted by an insignificant outsider. I know you won’t want it

anymore.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take you to get a brand–new one.”
Caleb reached toward me once again, but Liam stepped in faster, pulling me behind him and saying indifferently, “There’s nothing between you and Whitney anymore. Stop bothering her and making things worse.”
Caleb acted like Liam wasn’t even there and kept his eyes fixed on me.
“Whitney, please come here. I’ll agree to whatever you want if you just come back.
“You’ve always wanted to get married. We can go to the City Hall tomorrow and get our marriage certificate.”
I stepped back, feeling nothing but disgust.
“Caleb, listen carefully–we’re done.
“I won’t marry you in this life, and I won’t in the next either. We’ll never be together again.”
Before I could even finish, Caleb stormed toward me.
