Chapter 12
In that moment, I swore to myself that I would wait for three years. If we were both still alive by then, we would leave everything
behind.
The days ahead seemed long, but I knew Maddox and I should have our own lives too.
We settled in his pack, a place with a climate that was warm year–round
From time to time, I would scroll through my posts, looking at the photos of our first time together, and the pictures from our mating ceremony at the Northern Border,
I would forever treasure those beautiful memories.
Sebastian’s POV
On my way back from the Northern Border, I encountered a little girl
She was playing with a stone, and on it, engraved were the words: “Peace and Joy.”
I was stunned because I had seen that stone before, secretly in Harper’s luggage.
The day I had hit her, she had ended up in the hospital, and later, I had someone sneak into her hotel room and found that stone.
I asked the little girl how she came by the stone.
She said, “An older sister gave it to me!
“She said it would bring me peace and joy in the future”
“Did she say where the stone came from?” I asked.
She nodded and replied, “She said it was given to her by a little boy. She had wanted to give it to someone she liked, but then she said that person’s heart wondered.”
Those words were like a knife piercing my heart
So all this time, Harper had been thinking about being with me.
What was I doing back then?
I suddenly remembered.
I was in an affair with Emery, being intimate with her.
We had a child together, and I told her I loved her.
The day Emery left, she left me a letter.
It only had one sentence: “Sebastian, you plece of trash. You’ve lost a really good girl. Of course I’m not talking about myself, I’m talking about Harper. She loved you that much, she was that good to you, yet you betrayed her. You betrayed your mate, and you betrayed your mate bond.”
At the thought of this, I collapsed into tears.
Suddenly, a shell exploded nearby, and I lost both my legs.
When I woke up, I was back in the pack house.
My father was coldly staring at me. “You pushed Harper away, and now you’re going after her? Look, even the Moon Goddess is punishing you.”
I stared at my empty pant legs in horror.
“Ah!”
Chapter 12
I couldn’t accept it. I just couldn’t.
Harper had once loved me so much. She used to follow me around.
“Sebastian, I want hot cocoa.
“Sebastian, can you not get so close to other she–wolves?”
“Sebastian, I like you.”
In fact, I had already regretted it when she returned to the pack.
When I saw her, I couldn’t control my feelings. I could only pretend not to love her.
When I heard she was going to reject me and call off our engagement, I felt so heartbroken, but I couldn’t show it.
When she left, I wanted so badly for her to stay, but she didn’t.
I thought to myself, she used to hate seeing me even talk to other women. If I went ahead with the mating ceremony with Emery, she would definitely come back and cause a scene when she found out.
But when I held the ceremony with Emery, she didn’t show up.
I thought about it for a long time, then realized I had to find her.
When I saw her treating the injured, I was in awe of how strong she was,
meant when she said her tastes had changed.
I saw the person she loved, and in that moment, I finally understood what she n It wasn’t that her tastes had changed. It was that I wasn’t worthy of her anymore.
