Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Eileen spent the entire night sitting in a coffee shop, lost in thought.
For Julius, she had clipped her own wings, severed her future, and stayed quietly by his side for years.
But she was the beloved heiress of the Greymoor family, widely recognized in elite circles as a prodigy in fashion design.
So even after being hurt beyond recognition, she still had the courage to
start over.
With that in mind, she called her best friend, Bridget Grendall, who was living all the way in Switzerland. “Bridget, didn’t you say your company was still looking for a creative director? Do you think I could be a good fit?”
Bridget paused, her tone surprised. “You want to come? Would Julius even let you?”
“Yes, I want to go,” Eileen replied with a bitter laugh. “There’s nothing holding me back anymore. We’re getting a divorce.”
“Divorce? Why?” Bridget’s voice turned serious in an instant. “Did he do something unforgivable?”
Eileen forced a small smile, fighting back tears. “I’ll tell you everything once I get to Switzerland. For now, just send me an invitation letter. I’ll apply for a work visa first thing tomorrow.”
Once they’d settled the details and hung up, Eileen freshened up in the café restroom and then left.
Chapter 3
Her first stop was the police station, where she had her information
entered into the missing children database. She pleaded with the officers to do everything they could to help find her child, and at the same time, she hired a private investigator.
Next, she went to a law firm and asked an attorney to draft a divorce
agreement.
Once everything was set, Eileen touched up her makeup and returned to the hospital.
She knew she couldn’t alert Julius just yet. With his personality, he’d never let her leave if he suspected anything–and he certainly wouldn’t let her find her child.
Besides, she had raised Archie herself. Letting go wouldn’t be easy.
But all her caution turned out to be unnecessary…
The moment she reached the door, she heard Archie’s laughter ringing
out.
Through the window, she saw a woman feeding Archie, the two of them chatting and laughing together, looking incredibly closely.
Eileen froze, her eyes immediately drawn to the woman’s black tailcoat dress.
“That’s the same dress the woman in the video was wearing yesterday,” she thought.
Suddenly, everything clicked. Eileen sucked in a sharp breath, struggling to contain her anger as she turned to leave–only to see Julius hurrying toward her from the end of the hallway.
He looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept all night.
Chapter 3
Eileen found it strange. She hadn’t been home last night, which should have given the two of them plenty of time alone. But judging by his appearance, he hadn’t spent the night enjoying himself–he’d been running around, restless.
Before she could process it, Julius had reached her and pulled her into his
arms.
His embrace was still warm, that familiar hint of sandalwood clinging to him.
But Eileen didn’t want to be near him. In fact, she felt nauseated.
“Eileen, where did you go last night? I called you a hundred times and you never answered!
“Were you worried sick about Archie? Don’t worry. transfusion. He’s going to be fine.”
he’s had a
Julius’s eyes were filled with concern–it didn’t look like an act.
Eileen still couldn’t understand how this man, who’d once sworn to love and protect her forever, could father a child with another woman–and even go so far as to switch her
child.
She pressed her pale lips together, swallowing every word of hurt and accusation. She wanted to scream, to demand answers.
But reason prevailed. Forget it. She could find her child on her own. As for this man, she didn’t need him anymore.
“I’m fine. I must’ve dozed off at the café last night. As soon as I woke up, I hurried back.”
Julius finally relaxed, the tension easing from his brow. “Next time, let me know where you’re going ahead of time, okay? Otherwise, I’ll worry myself sick.”
Chapter 3
His voice was gentle–so gentle anyone could fall for it.
But she still caught him glancing, almost involuntarily, toward the hospital room.
The woman sat by the bed, eyes fixed on the door. In the next moment, Julius gently pushed Eileen away, a flicker of guilt in his eyes. “If you didn’t get any sleep last night, let me have the driver take you home to rest. Archie’s being looked after–you don’t have to worry.”
Eileen managed a bitter smile. She wasn’t stupid. She knew he was trying to get rid of her.
But it didn’t matter anymore. Only her heart still ached, just a little.
With a cold, indifferent nod, she turned to leave. But before she could, the woman inside opened the door and stepped out. “Ms. Greymoor, hello. I was one of Mr. Swanton’s scholarship students in college. My name is Paula Welcott. We’ve met before.”
The girl was young and beautiful, reminding Eileen a little of her younger
self.
Eileen didn’t respond. She shot Paula a blank look and walked away.
She had barely reached the hospital entrance when a message from Paula popped up, “If you want to know where your child is, meet me in the parking garage…”
