Chapter 7
After breakfast, Brendan and Gianna headed to the marriage registration office.
They got their marriage license done in no time.
“Uncle, I know you’re busy. We’ve got the certificate now–you can go back to work. I need to go home for a bit.”
Outside the building, Gianna turned and spoke to Brendan.
“Uncle?” Brendan frowned. On that wickedly handsome face of his, a flash of displeasure flickered by–so fast it was almost unnoticeable.
Gianna caught herself and quickly corrected, “Brendan?”
What should she call him?
They were married now, but it was just a contract marriage. Calling him “honey” felt way too weird.
But “uncle” definitely wouldn’t do anymore. That was what she used to call him when she was dating Arnold.
He was never her uncle.
She lifted her eyes and glanced at Brendan to check his reaction.
Thankfully, he didn’t say anything else.
“Want a ride?”
When they got to the car, he asked casually.
“No need. I’ll just take a cab, “Gianna replied. “You don’t have to bother with me.”
“You sure you don’t want me to take you home?” Brendan turned to look at her. That face of his–he could’ve been a top movie star.
“It’s fine. I’ll go on my own!
She knew Brendan had only married her to do her a favor.
She didn’t want to trouble him more than necessary.
Back then, saving him had been a spur–of–the–moment decision. Whoever it was, she would’ve helped them.
Now that she was using that favor, she honestly felt a little guilty.
At the Carlton family estate-
Carmen sat there frowning, “Why isn’t she back yet?”
“Mom, don’t get mad, “Rosie said gently.” Maybe Sis has something going on. Yesterday’s wedding was such a mess.”
“Sis loves Arnold so much. She probably didn’t have a choice yesterday! I mean, she couldn’t just suddenly stop loving him, right?”
“Mpm, you gotta calm down and talk to her. Mr. Curtis’s not someone she should mess with. What if she got a little carried away at the wedding and got feelings for him?”
“Someone like Mr. Curtis… not just anyone can handle him.”
Rosie’s eyes darkened a little.
Brendan was supposed to be hers! Gianna better not try and steal him.

She worked so hard, but Brendan never even looked at her.
She didn’t believe Gianna could catch his eye just like that!
When Gianna stepped through the door, everyone turned to look at her.
Yahir had been on the phone. As soon as he saw her, he hung up immediately.
Her eldest brother, Dawson had been checking emails on his laptop. Now he looked up at her too.
Her second brother, Clifford also looked at her, though he didn’t stop fiddling with the sandalwood prayer beads around his wrist.
Her third brother, Mickey had been taking selfies, but he also turned his gaze toward Gianna at that moment.
All three sat together on a couch, watching her with cold, heavy stares.
Carmen’s eyes shot toward her, already burning with anger.
Rosie spoke in her soft voice. “Sis, you’re finally back! We’ve been waiting for you forever!”
“I didn’t ask you to wait, did I?” Gianna shot a glance at Rosie.
That scheming bitch was always twisting the truth.
Always twisting the story, as usual.
“I didn’t mean it like that… It’s just that Mom was a little worried. She wanted to ask you something!”
Rosie shrank back like she’d just been scolded, looking all pitiful. “Sorry.”
Even when she wasn’t wrong, she made herself look like the victim.
Gianna had long gotten used to this act.
She used to explain herself. Now she didn’t even bother.
If they all thought she was crazy–fine.
This time around, she’d show them just how crazy she could be!
