Chapter 6
On Kai’s birthday, New York’s elite gathered together.[]
Celeste spent five hours getting ready, admiring her radiant reflection with a satisfied smirk.[]
She deliberately arrived fashionably late, basking in everyone’s envious stares with undisguised smugness.
After all, landing the Harrington family tree was every socialite’s dream.[]
“Ah!”
A socialite accidentally spilled red wine on her dress.[]
Celeste’s face instantly darkened as she shricked, “Are you fucking blind?! This is the latest limited edition Dior!“]
She screamed curses while grabbing the woman’s collar, shoving her roughly.[]
The surrounding guests frowned and whispered among themselves.
Suddenly, spotlights blazed, drawing everyone’s attention to the stage.
Celeste looked up and her pupils contracted sharply.
That man in the custom suit with aristocratic bearing was her family’s “Dr. Harrington“![]
So for two years, he’d been hiding his identity just
to
get close to her?
Thinking of this, her heart couldn’t help but race wildly, her cheeks flushed, and she shyly tucked her hair behind her ear, toward him with catlike steps, as if she could already see herself wearing a diamond ring the next second.[]
But the next second, several bodyguards rushed up and slammed her to the ground.[]
She struggled in panic. “Dr. Harr… Young Master Harrington! What’s going on?”

Linda shouted desperately beside her, “Young Master Harrington! Didn’t you fall for our Celeste? What’s this supposed to mean?”
Kai acted as if he hadn’t heard anything, looking down at Celeste from above, a cruel smile curling at the corners of his mouth.[]
“Do it.”
SLAP![]
The first slap sent Celeste’s face snapping to one side.
“Smack! Smack! Smack!“]
She stubbornly turned her head back, but the next second she was slapped back by another person. The crisp sounds came one after another, the slaps continuously landing on her face.[]
Soon Celeste’s face was swollen beyond recognition, blood streaming from her mouth
“This is for Vivian!” Kai’s icy voice echoed through the hall.]

After dozens more slaps, Celeste’s face was completely deformed, her speech slurred. “Young… Young Master… it was… sis… she bullied me since we were kids…“]]
Kai raised his hand and the big screen suddenly lit up–it showed all of Celeste’s evil deeds.[]
Her repeated provocations of Vivian, deliberately breaking Vivian’s mother’s belongings, even disgusting footage of her tangled with the Zane family heir.]
“Ah!” Celeste screamed hysterically. “Turn it off! Turn it off! It’s fake! All fake!“[]
Kai grabbed her hair and forced her to look up at the screen, his voice ice–cold. “You leaked Vivian’s story to the media, now I’m letting you get a taste of it too!“]
Dad and Ryan stood nearby, faces ashen.]
Ryan’s hands shook as memories of his cold mockery toward his real sister flashed through his mind. His stomach churned and he nearly collapsed.[]
Linda tried to make excuses. “This must be a misunderstanding! Celeste would never…”
“SLAP!” Dad backhanded her across the face to cut her off, “Shut up! You and your daughter have disgraced the Ashworth name completely!”
Now, this luxurious birthday party had turned into Celeste’s public execution.]]
Within three days, scandals about Celeste’s affairs at home and abuse of the legitimate daughter spread throughout New York, becoming everyone’s gossip.
Under public pressure, Celeste had to hastily marry into the Zane family

n’t.
But on the wedding day, she discovered she marrying the charming eldest son she’d fallen for, but the notoriously violent second son of the family.
She broke down on the spot, trying to escape the wedding, but the second son slapped her without a word, leaving Celeste dizzy and stunned into silence.
She secretly called Linda for help, but Linda was also too busy with her own troubles–Dad was fighting for a divorce.]
That night, heart–wrenching screams echoed from the Zane mansion. Before dawn, bloodied Celeste was rushed to the emergency room.
Even more ironic, while she was hospitalized, the Ashworth family declared bankruptcy.
And her dear mother Linda made off with the family’s last valuable possessions, vanishing without a trace.
