Chapter 11
After being apart for a long time, Oliver was unusually reserved around
- me.
His hair was perfectly styled, and he wore a white shirt he hadn’t put on in ages. It was faintly reminiscent of his appearance back when we first
met.
He nervously fiddled with the cup handle in front of him and said
carefully, “Marie, I didn’t expect you to agree to meet me. I’ve realized now that I was in the wrong with what happened before. Can you give me another chance to start fresh?”
I pretended to ponder, adopting a concerned look. “What about the two
children?”
Oliver’s expression turned grim, but he swiftly masked it with a smile.
“If you’re not fond of Sally’s child, I can arrange for them to be raised elsewhere. As for the child you have with Adam, I’m ready to accept them as my own—if you’re open to it.”
I raised an eyebrow, unfazed by his reaction.
This was just like Oliver–willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted, even if it meant raising another man’s child.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t come here today to talk about getting back together.”
Oliver was startled.
“So, what is it, then?”

I reached into my bag, retrieved a document, and handed it to him.

“This is my true reason. I wanted to tell you earlier, but I told a white lie to protect your pride.”
Oliver picked up the document and skimmed through it with a puzzled expression.
As he grew increasingly somber, I couldn’t help but feel a rising sense of satisfaction.
The real cause of the miscarriage wasn’t my poor health.
“It was because you have asthenospermia. Your sperm quality makes it very difficult to maintain a pregnancy.”
I ran my fingers over the faint scar on my stomach and let out a sigh.
“I endured so much pain and tried everything to keep that baby, but in the end, I couldn’t. Meanwhile, Sally gave birth with such ease.
“It seems like you and Sally are indeed the perfect match.”
I smiled, pretending not to understand the scheme behind all this.
“Since you’re so ‘fortunate,‘ you should commit to her. Why are you still bothering your ex–wife?”
Oliver remained quiet for a while, repeatedly flipping the thin sheets of paper in his hands, causing them to crumple slightly.
After a long pause, he looked at me with clenched teeth and asked, “Is this report genuine?”
I nodded.
“Absolutely. I’ve been saving it for just this moment.”

In an instant, Oliver jumped up from his seat. Ignoring his surroundings and reputation, he scrambled out, desperate for air.
As I watched him leave, I took a slow sip of my coffee, suddenly anticipating the news that would follow.
That evening, a trusted senior employee delivered the latest update from the scene.
Oliver had hurried to get a paternity test done overnight, and the results revealed Sally’s child wasn’t his.
This led to a fierce argument with Sally, which escalated to a physical confrontation. Eventually, it necessitated an ambulance and police involvement.
The incident created a significant stir. Even though it wasn’t officially reported, it gained infamy among the local wealthy circles.
The old–money families considered Oliver crude while the new elite were hesitant to be linked with him.
His chaotic scandal circulated through the community, turning into a cautionary tale used by elders to advise the younger generation.
Consequently, his company found itself in an even more vulnerable position.
Ironically, Oliver and Sally began the process of filing for divorce.
