Chapter 5
The file contained what I had once considered my wedding gift to Henry–thirty percent of Figmi Group’s shares.
A fortune most people could not dream of earning in several lifetimes.
Back then, because I loved him, I ignored all opposition and decided to transfer every single share I owned to him, effective immediately, on our wedding day. It was meant to be a gesture of absolute sincerity.
However, the moment those shares were in his hands, the gentleman I thought I knew disappeared. All that was left for me was a cold and scheming ex–fiance.
I had been foolish. Fortunately, my father was not.
What Henry did not know was that after hearing of my decision, my father quietly altered the contract’s effective date.
“If you still want to give it to him after you’re married, then sign it after the wedding. There’s no harm in waiting.”
That meant the transfer agreement still required my signature to take effect.
I looked at Henry and sneered. There was no reason to sign it now or at any time.
While I was processing all this, Henry stepped forward, finally tearing off his fake mask of a doting husband.
He leaned close, speaking in a voice only the two of us could hear, “You received the file, right? I appreciate it, but unfortunately, I have better options now.
“Leave my wedding. Now!”
I nodded calmly.
“Sure. But don’t come crawling back to me later.”
As soon as I spoke, an army of bodyguards surrounded the hall from outside.
Then, the overhead screen lit up, playing a live news feed.
[Queenie Howard, the chairperson of Figmi Group and one of the world’s top ten billionaires, officially returns to the company today.]
Clips of my international business meetings and expansion deals rolled across the screen.
The hall, which had been filled with sneers and mockery just moments ago, fell dead silent.
Yvonne’s best friend collapsed to the floor, stammering as she pointed at me, “Y–you’re the chairwoman of Figmi Group? Why didn’t you say so earlier? That bracelet was worth 120 million…”
