Chapter 14 You Hate Me
1/8
Over the years, the Morgan family had burned through cash on numerous business gambles. If it hadn’t been for a handful of solid research breakthroughs keeping them in the game, they’d have been kicked out of the high–society club ages ago.
These guys were like corporate bullies, squashing countless small firms. They had a real knack for stealing research. Those little companies didn’t stand a chance against a behemoth like the Morgans; they were driven to the wall. Some even faced the heart–wrenching loss of their entire family legacies.
It was a classic case of karma. The Morgan family’s downfall was written in the stars, a direct result of their own dirty deeds.
Ryan was all in for Sabrina’s game plan.
As long as that girl stopped being a doormat and trying to play nice with the Sterling family, he’d have her back, no questions. asked.
In a matter of days, the Morgan family was toast.
When Jane caught wind of the news, she was over the moon.
But the real bombshell wasn’t just the Morgan family’s demise; it was the scoop about Sabrina’s true identity.
The night she crossed paths with Theodore, Jane found out he

was Sabrina’s biological dad.

And get this, he was the heir of the Fridman family, one of the top dogs in Los Angeles. Talk about a jaw–dropping revelation!
Jane never in a million years thought she’d be friends with a real–life heiress.
It was like something out of a wild, unbelievable novel.
After a brief moment of pondering, Jane had an epiphany.
“Rina, you’re clearly a silver–spoon baby.”
Sabrina had just taken a swig of water and burst into laughter.
“What on earth makes you say that?”
Back when I was overseas, I was scraping by just to put food on the table. Is that what you call being born rich?
Jane replied without missing a beat, “Come on, think about it. The Sterling family that took you in is loaded, and your real dad hails from one of the crème de la crème families.
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out you’re destined for the high life, Rina!”
Sabrina’s face clouded over.
The high life? How come I’ve never really been happy in either life?

And as for money, I’m strapped for cash, big time. In fact, I’m dying to get my hands on a fortune,
Sure, the Sterlings have more money than they know what to do with, but it’s not mine. I lived with them on a shoestring budget.
Let’s be real, to the Sterlings, I was just a stray mutt.
When Matthew was around, Hailey might throw me a bone for his sake, but when he was gone, I was treated worse than a homeless dog.
And as for the Fridman family, I can’t take them at face value either.
Sabrina knew all too well that the only person she could count on was herself. The only things that truly counted were having money and power firmly in her grasp.
After school that day, as Sabrina gathered her things to leave the classroom, she found herself blocked at the door..
Looking at the person who had stopped her, she motioned for Jane to leave first.
With the Morgans‘ downfall, Olivia, once a pampered princess, had plummeted from her pedestal.
In just a few days, she had become increasingly withdrawn, transforming from the spotlight–loving girl into someone much
Chapter 14 You Hate Me quieter.
“Sabrina, I bet you’re feeling pretty smug right now?” Olivia hissed through clenched teeth, her face appearing pallid and lacking the usual polish.

“Why would I feel smug?” Sabrina asked, genuinely perplexed.
Olivia continued, ignoring her question, “Seeing me in this state must bring you joy.”
“Your family got what they deserved, but to be honest, seeing you like this does feel somewhat satisfying,” Sabrina replied, refusing to sugarcoat her words.
She was no do–gooder; she couldn’t help but harbor resentment toward those who had hurt her.
Sabrina had a long memory and believed in payback.
If she hadn’t acted yet, it was simply because the time wasn’t right.
As Olivia locked eyes with her, for a split second, she caught a glimpse of the young Sabrina from their bygone childhood days.
“You hate me,” Olivia declared matter–of–factly, stating it as an established truth rather than posing it as a question.
Sabrina’s eyes turned as cold as ice, and her lips tightened into a thin, straight line.

A heavy silence descended upon the space between them.
No one in their wildest dreams would have imagined that Sabrina and Olivia were once two peas in a pod, inseparable. during their younger years.

When Sabrina was a kid, she was an absolute darling, the apple of everyone’s eye.
At three and a half years old, she met four–year–old Olivia at kindergarten.
Olivia was a real sucker for good looks and was smitten with Sabrina at first sight.
As she got home, she threw a tantrum and pleaded with her mother, Miranda Morgan, to bring Sabrina home and make her a part of the family.
Back then, Hailey and Brianna hadn’t made their way back to the Sterling family yet, and little Sabrina was still swimming in a sea of love.
When confronted with the affection from her classmates, she felt a bit tongue–tied and shy.
After all, most kids in her class weren’t fans of her. It was a pretty dumb reason, really–she always aced the teachers‘ questions and snagged the most little stars.
Olivia was the very first one to tell Sabrina that she liked her.

That day was hands down the happiest day Sabrina ever had in kindergarten. When she got home, she rummaged through her things and picked out a little gift for her new–found friend, which she brought to school the next day to give to Olivia.
From that point on, wherever Sabrina went, Olivia tagged along.
But then, Hailey came back to the Sterling family with Brianna, and Sabrina slowly but surely lost everyone’s love.
By then, no one in the Sterling family wanted to hear a peep out of her.
Everyone changed, all except for Olivia.
Whenever Sabrina was down in the dumps, little Olivia would always step up and stand in front of her, gearing up to defend her.
“Rina, did that little twerp pick on you again? You just stay put. I’ll go give her a piece of my mind.
“Rina, don’t be blue. Even if the whole world turns their backs. on you, I’ll always have your back.
“Rina, I’m done hanging out with that pesky Brianna. Please don’t be mad at me, all right?
“Rina, no matter how much you change, you’ll always be my BFF.”
“Rina, we’re gonna be besties for life.”

Childhood friendships were a breeze to form, but sometimes they were like a house of cards, casily toppled by the trials and tribulations of life.
When Olivia was ten, she came over to Sabrina’s place to play. It just so happened that the servants were off that day, so it was just the three of them–Sabrina, Olivia, and Brianna at the house.
That day, a fire broke out, but it wasn’t until the flames were raging that Sabrina and Olivia finally caught on that something was seriously wrong.
As soon as she grasped the situation, Sabrina dashed out of the room and, lo and behold, bumped into Brianna holding a lighter.
“What the hell are you doing?” Sabrina roared.
Brianna just let out a cackle. “Sabrina, I’m going to roast you alive.
“Once you’re out of the picture, the Sterling family fortune will be all mine.”
The flickering flames cast an eerie, devilish glow on her twisted face.
In that instant, Sabrina didn’t see a mere little girl; she saw a full–blown demon.

“Brianna, you’re out of your mind! We’ll both end up toast!”
Sabrina lunged forward, slapping Brianna across the face in sheer desperation.

But Brianna kept on laughing maniacally, “You guys can kick the bucket. I’ll be just peachy.”
With the last escape route almost swallowed up by the raging flames, Brianna suddenly gave Sabrina a powerful shove and bolted towards the doorway.
Just as she was about to make her getaway, something heavy came crashing down from above, and she wasn’t fast enough to get out of the way.
The fire was getting more and more intense.
Just then, Matthew’s voice rang out from the entrance.
“Olivia, we’re in the clear!” Sabrina’s eyes lit up for a split second. She quickly wrapped the damp blanket around Olivia more tightly, hoping to protect her from the looming danger.
Before long, Matthew emerged from the chaos of the inferno.
