That afternoon, Stuart’s grandma asked me to
visit her at her house.
I really should go see Stuart’s only living
relative.
If Brittany was right, she’d kick the bucket
tonight.
If she died, Stuart would be done for.
I’d finally found a toy that really fit, and I wasn’t
about to let him go to waste.
The old woman was lying in a fully automatic
hospital bed, pale and weak. She didn’t seem to
have much energy.
<
I looked at her medical records. It wasn’t a
terminal illness. She shouldn’t be dying so soon.
The medical team was top–notch, and she was
getting the best drugs. Logically, nothing should
be going wrong.
So why was she dying?
Grandma Stuart grabbed my hand and gave me
a pair of exquisite jade bracelets. “Good child,
these are Stuart’s mother’s dowry. Before she
passed, she asked me to give them to Stuart’s
wife. I’ve finally completed my mission.
Now that Stuart has you by his side, I can rest
easy and join his grandfather, and his mother
and father.”
It hit me. The reason she wanted a wedding
was so that Stuart would get married. It would
fulfill her last wish, and then she could die in
peace.
<
“Grandma, don’t say that. There are still so
many things in this world worth seeing.”
Grandma Stuart said, “I’m already so old. What
haven’t I seen? As a woman, I’ve lived a
complete life.”
Seeing how she had a one–way ticket to the afterlife, I decided to spice things up a bit!
