Chapter 7
In the past, Jack saw her as an innocent girl and never showed his fists or gun around her.
But today, he realized just how wrong he’d been
A woman who had been with a gangster for five years couldn’t be truly innocent!
“Tina! So it was you who made them arrive two hours late!
“You’re the one who led those kidnappers to her!
“You always called to get me away on purpose!
“You wanted her dead all along!”
No one could stay calm with a gun pointed at them.
Tina collapsed instantly, eyes wide, pleading, “Jack, don’t be like this. I–I acted on impulse!
“I know I was wrong. This is my first time. I’ll call them now to cancel the plan!”
He remembered how, over the past three years, every time Selly was kidnapped, he’d rush to her, only to leave because of Tina.
How many injuries did she suffer? How many times was she disappointed during those eight two–hour delays?
“Jack, I know I was wrong. Please don’t leave me.
“This is really the first time. I’ve never hurt anyone before…”
Tina grabbed his pant leg, crying her heart out.
But all Jack saw was Selly’s stubborn, indifferent face.
When they first got married, she was so happy, her eyes shining bright
She cooked for him, told him about her life, and pulled him into watching TV shows together.
But he only had Tina in his heart, so he repeatedly scolded her for wasting his time, and coldly told her again and again, “You’re just Tina’s shield, don’t wish for things that aren’t yours.”
When did she stop cooking for him?
Probably after the first kidnapping. She bit her lip, waiting until he showed up, only to see him rush away because of Tina’s call.
After that, her joy vanished.
The light in her eyes never came back.
“You did,” Jack said hoarsely. “You killed Selly.”
Tina looked up, tears streaming. “Who’s that? I don’t even know her…”
Jack’s eyes were unfocused.
After a while, he slapped himself hard.
“It was me. I killed her.”
Tina was still crying, but he walked out, already on the phone.
“Send a few people to deal with Tina.
“The rest, find a woman.
“Selly Tallis, long hair… No photo… Just go find her!”
In just a few days, Jack’s world seemed to fall apart
But on the contrary, things went surprisingly well for me.
I never expected to get a second chance at life.
A witch saved me from a curse.
Once my injuries healed, she even found me a job.
I became a cleaner at the home of a CEO who was rumored to be vicious.
It was a weekend, and the CEO, Richard Lorien, was on a video call at
home.
When talking about a rival company stealing their project, his first thought was to send someone to steal the rival boss’s black cat.
I was halfway sweeping the floor and couldn’t help but laugh.
Suddenly, the meeting went silent behind me. Just as I wondered why, my broom was taken away.
I turned to see Richard bending down to sweep, but his eyes kept sneaking glances at me.
“Finally, you laughed. You’ve been working here a month, and every day you look so gloomy, like I’m not paying you.
“Even though I’m your boss, if something’s bothering you, just tell me. Maybe talking it out will help.”
After sweeping, he gave me one last long look, then went back to his meeting.
Watching his face turned serious again, I secretly called the witch. “Are you sure this guy’s really that vicious?”
“Of course. He’s always third–wheeling his friends‘ dates. Isn’t that vicious enough?”
I smiled helplessly.
I knew she just wanted me to have a better life.
After a pause, she said, “Jack went crazy when he thought you were dead.”
I froze.
“In the last hour, he found your pregnancy test report. His guilt made him break through the memory block.
“Everyone forgot you, except him. He’s still out there searching for you.
“Do you want to go back?”
