The boy’s mom frowned, and she quickly covered his mouth.
“Ambrose, don’t mind what Julio just said. He’s just joking.”
Ambrose wasn’t upset, just smiling as he replied, “It’s fine. My auntie is indeed amazing.”
Julio’s mom felt suspicious, and her gaze towards Ambrose became odd.
Normally, when a child heard something that disrespected their mom. they would get upset, as most kids were close to their moms and instinctively protected them.
But Ambrose was not like that.
The performance ended, and the crowd dispersed.
As Julio’s mom was leaving, she said meaningfully, “Ambrose, everyone has only one mom, and if you lose her, you can’t get her back.”
Ambrose bit his lip, confused,
Mabel gently took his hand. “Ambi, did I perform well today? Did I make you proud?”
Ambrose was distracted, his voice lacking enthusiasm, “Auntie Mabel, you are so amazing.”
Mabel’s heart sank. She thought her performance tonight was perfect, so why was Ambrose still feeling down?
Seymour had no work at the company in the afternoon and arrived early at
the kindergarten gate with the driver.
Ambrose saw Seymour as soon as he got in the car and immediately called out. “Dad, you’re here!”
“Did you have fun at kindergarten today?”
“Yes. But Dad.” Ambrose asked. feeling puzzled. “Julio’s mom just said
that everyone has only one mom and if you lose her, you can’t get her back. What does that mean?
“Am I going to lose my mom?”
Mabel’s smile froze.
After a long silence, Seymour spoke slowly, “Ambi, don’t worry, you won’t lose your mom.”
Ambrose heard Seymour’s response but still frowned slightly. “Dad, last time I called Mom, she was very angry.
“Mom said we don’t want her anymore, but Dad, I never said I don’t want her. It’s Mom who secretly went out and didn’t come home!”
His frowning face accused, making Seymour’s heart skip a beat.
“Ambi, when did you talk to your mom about this?”
Seymour had no idea about this at all.
His tense expression made Mabel’s heart pause.
Was Seymour worried that Felicia would never come back?
Mabel tried to calm things down. “Sey, Felicia must have said that in anger. She loves Ambi so much, and she will definitely come back. Maybe it was Felicia who called that madam on purpose to make her say
those things to Ambi.
“Sey, don’t be angry. Felicia is always like this–so stubborn and unwilling to back down easily.”
Otherwise, why would a classmate’s parent say such things to Ambrose for no reason?
The panic that had just arisen in Seymour was instantly calmed by Mabel’s words.
He kept a straight face, his lips pressed tightly together. “Ambi, tomorrow you come with me to see your mom.”
He didn’t have time to guess what Felicia was really thinking, but he needed to clear things up with her. If she continued to be unreasonable, he would force her to come home.
With both his wife and daughter living outside, people might think he was mistreating them.
Ambrose blinked his big eyes, and he agreed, “Okay.”
Mabel gritted her teeth, her smile forced, “Sey, maybe I can come with you to see Felicia. It’s been a long time, and miss her too.”
“No. Mabel,” Seymour rejected without hesitation.
He didn’t want any arguments during tomorrow’s visit. Since Felicia didn’t want to see Mabel, it was better for just him and Ambrose to go.
From his daughter’s birth to now, he had only seen her once, so he had always longed to see her more often.
He had to see his daughter tomorrow no matter what.
Seymour first sent Mabel home and, upon returning to the villa, saw
Bettie looking as if she had something to say but hesitated.
He raised an eyebrow. “Bettie, do you have something to say?”
Bettie looked at the Ambrose. “Mr. Lucero, Mrs. Lucero’s people were just here.”
“You mean Felicia?”
His face darkened, a bad feeling rising in his heart. “What did they come to the villa for?”
“Mrs. Lucero said to have her things inventoried. Since she called personally, I let her people into the bedroom.
“I followed them the whole time. They only took Mrs. Lucero’s things, and I assure you they didn’t take anything extra.”
Seymour nodded slightly. Felicia probably just had someone take some clothes, which wasn’t a big deal.
He had frozen her card, and she had endured for some time before saying she was coming back for clothes, which was actually a sign of reconciliation.
Seymour wasn’t that stubborn; he wouldn’t hold grudges against his wife who had just given birth.
“I see.”
He didn’t notice the anxiety in Bettie’s eyes.
Seymour spent most of the evening in his study, having ordered the servants not to enter without his permission.
