Chapter 3
His face changed in an instant. “What nonsense are you talking about again?”
I pulled out the prepared divorce agreement and placed them on the table.
“Sign it,” I stated flatly. “You’ve made your choice weeks ago.”
He grabbed my wrist. “I told you! It’s not what you think between Skylar and me! I love you!”
Seeing him so flustered was almost funny.
“Then make her move out.” I said, enunciating every word. “Right. Now.”
He froze.
Right on cue, Skylar’s wail pierced the air. “Ethan! Please, don’t fight because of me… Oh! The baby just got scared and spit up…”
Ethan released my hand. “Vivian! I understand you’re angry, but you shouldn’t push a woman holding a baby!”
His reproach felt like a dull blade, tearing apart the last shred of hope I had.
I watched his back as he rushed towards Skylar and their child.
Finally, the truth slammed into me, undeniable and cold: in Ethan’s world, I would always come second to them.
Standing by the roadside, I suddenly remembered our wedding day when Ethan had sworn in front of the priest:
“I will love you and only you for all my life.”
Looking back now, I realized just how tragically short his idea of “all my life” had been.
My phone buzzed. A text from Ethan.
[As long as you stop making a fuss, you’ll be Mrs. Voss forever.]
I smiled bitterly and blocked all his contact information.
Forever?
From the moment he knock up Skylar behind my back, there was NO “forever” left for us.
