Chapter 5
I had just managed to sit up when the hospital door slammed open.
Grandpa Voss stormed in, flanked by two bodyguards, his ornate cane striking the floor.
“Vivian!” He smashed his cane against my bed rail. “You bitch! The baby is in ICU. Satisfied?”
A hollow laugh escaped me..
When I was building the company with Ethan, I was his dear granddaughter–in–law.
Now that Skylar had given him an heir, I was a bitch.
My voice was hoarse. “If the baby’s in the ICU, you should wait outside the operating room, not here.”
He swung his cane, hitting the my hand and tearing the needle out.
Blood welled.
“Stop pretending!” He raged. “The fortune teller had said that it was your curse! The baby’s lungs are filling with blood! You—”
He was so enraged he nearly passed out.
The bodyguards rushed to support him.
I just felt pity for the old man.
He had no idea that his only true great–grandchild was right here, inside me.
I felt so ridiculous. “You really think I’d curse an infant?”
Ethan stood behind him, without s single word.
“Don’t deny it!” Grandpa Voss wheezed. “The fortune teller said it’s the Matriarch’s Curse. To break it, we have to shave the head of the casting one.”

He took one step back.
That single step broke me. I laughed until tears streamed down my face.
He avoided my gaze. “Vivian,” he stammered, “please… for the baby…”
Ice filled my veins.
As the clippers touched my scalp, I said. “Do you remember when they shaved my head after the crash?”
The first lock of my black hair fell onto the white bed sheet.
“I felt so ugly, I hid in my room for three months. You stood outside every day, and you promised

Chapter 5
Ethan trembled violently.
“You promised that when my hair grew back, you’d brush it for me every day, buy the best hair oils and keep every strand perfect.”
The memories flooded back. We were in love once.
He had cherished this hair. Now… shorn over a lie.
“Stop!” Ethan suddenly lunged forward, grabbing the bodyguard’s arm.
But it was too late.
Agony and despair tore through me. Warmth gushed down my thighs.
I looked down and found blood dripped onto the floor.
Ethan followed my gaze. His face went deathly pale. “Vivian!”
