Chapter 10
Three months later, we opened a new branch in NYC.
Liam had avoided doing business here for my sake.
But now that I was ready to move on, it was time for a comeback. We threw a launch party to celebrate.
“Mommy!” Leo ran into my office, holding up a crayon drawing. “Look! I drew our family!”
On the paper were three stick figures. The one in the middle had a ponytail and was colored in with sparkly pink crayon.
A warm feeling spread through me.
So this is what a family felt like.
Liam followed him, his suit jacket slung over his shoulder. “The party’s at Cloud Nine, overlooking the river. Up for it?”
He tried to sound casual, but tension flickered in his eyes.
“Absolutely,” I said, kneeling to wipe some crayon off Leo’s face. “It’ll be nice to see the city lights again.”
Liam hugged me from behind. “Vivian… if you see Ethan…“.

“Liam! Rooftop’s set!” Eric, his best friend and assistant, barged in. Seeing me, he stumbled. “Uh, fireworks display will be way better than… that other time.”
Liam’s sharp cough cut him off.
“Right. I’ll… I’ll come back later?”
Liam released me. “It’s fine. We were just discussing the event.”

“Discussing?” Eric scoffed, recovering. “Boss, you’re overthinking. If it weren’t for him back then…”
“Eric,” Liam’s voice held a warning.
“Fine, fine. I’ll shut up.” Eric winked at me. “Vivian, you should know. After you disappeared, Liam nearly tore NYC apart. Then he finds you playing happy families with Ethan, and the idiot just…”
Liam grabbed him and shoved him out the door.
Turning back, his ears were pink. “Vivian, I…”
I walked over, stood on my toes, and kissed him.
His eyes instantly glistened. My first move.
HI
At the party, I was chatting with the new branch manager, I heard a familiar laugh from the terrace.
It was Skylar, in a diamond–studded dress, holding the baby. Ethan was draping his coat over her shoulders.
“Damn it,” Eric muttered, stepping in front of me. “New room. Now.”
Too late.

Chapter 10
Ethan had already seen me.
The wine glass in his hand shattered. Then he was vaulting the terrace railing.
“Mr. Voss, be careful!”
People shouted. He nearly fell, but his eyes were locked on me.
“Vivian…” He stood in front of me, eyes bloodshot. “It’s really you…”
Liam pulled me behind him.
Ethan ignored him, gaze fixed on me. “Come home. The baby’s weaned. You can be his mom now.”
His voice was raw. He reached for my wrist, but I pulled away.
Just then-
“Mommy!” Leo’s voice came from inside. “Teddy’s hiding!”
Ethan froze, staring at the little boy running towards us.
Liam took my hand, fingers interlacing. “Mr. Voss,” he said calmly, “my wife, Vivian. And our son, Leo.”
