Chapter 6
When Ethan and Mrs. Winters reached the scene, yellow police tape was everywhere.
Ethan’s heart pounded as he rushed inside.
Blood. Everywhere. Floor, walls–massive dark stains that made his stomach drop.
Mrs. Winters nearly collapsed at the sight, her legs shaking beneath her.
A detective looking for evidence spotted Ethan.
“Where’s my wife? You said you’d FIND her!”
The detective gave Ethan a look that said everything.
“Mr. Shaw, I’m not lying to you. Your wife isn’t here. We’re doing everything we can to locate both her and the kidnapper.”
“But two hours ago, the kidnapper jumped from a building. He’s dead. We still have no idea where Ms. Winters is… or if she’s even alive.”
The detective pointed at the blood pool, then held up an evidence bag with a kitchen knife inside.
“Based on the blood volume, Ms. Winters was likely stabbed multiple times. With this much blood loss, without immediate medical attention…”
“I’m afraid…”
Mrs. Winters collapsed at those words. She fell to her knees, eyes wild with horror.
“That’s impossible! Lily can’t be–wasn’t she behind all this? Weren’t these HER kidnappers?”
Mrs. Winters had been so certain Lily had orchestrated everything out of jealousy toward Olivia.
She’d only wanted to teach her daughter a lesson.
How did it come to this?
Ithan stood frozen, his eyes burning with tears he couldn’t shed.
He’d always known Lily loved him. That’s why he’d pushed her limits again and again–because he knew she’d take it.
Lily wasn’t always this quiet, this beaten down.
Seven years of marriage had worn away every sharp edge she’d once had.
“Diana, we don’t know anything for sure. Lily will be okay.”
Ethan’s voice was soft–trying to comfort Mrs. Winters, but really trying to convince himself.
His heart hammered in his chest. For a moment, the only sound was Mrs. Winters‘ sobbing.
Then the police found security camera footage from the area.
Ethan and Mrs. Winters clung to that last thread of hope as they watched the video.
Ethan’s carefully maintained composure shattered instantly.
“CALLUM STONE?! What the hell is HE doing here? Did Lily leave with him?!”

Chapter 6
His shout made everyone in the room turn and stare.
But Ethan was past caring. He glared at the screen, his eyes burning with jealousy and rage.
He’d always known Callum had kept in touch with Lily all these years.
But he’d never worried about it because Lily was so completely devoted to him.
Panic clawed at Ethan’s chest.
Would Lily really leave with Callum? Why? When had they started talking again?
His thoughts spiraled completely out of control.
“Where did they go? FIND THEM! NOW!”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Winters stared at the screen–at her daughter covered in blood–and her heart shattered.
She finally understood the terrible truth. Lily had nothing to do with the kidnapping. She’d been innocent all along.
As they both drowned in their regret, Mrs. Winters‘ assistant rushed in, face grim.
“Ma’am, Noah’s awake, but there’s something else…”
“We just found evidence. Noah’s finger… it was cut off by Olivia herself.”
