Chapter 1
On the drive home after Jason bailed me out of the police station, I dropped the bomb-
“I want a divorce.”
“Lily, enough with the drama queen act.”
I looked at Jason focused on driving, and suddenly I just smiled bitterly.
“This isn’t an act.”
“We’re done, Jason.”
The Maserati jerked to a stop.
The air between us turned ice–cold.
“What’s your excuse this time?” His voice was sharp as steel.
I studied Jason, suddenly tired of the facade, rolled down my window and pointed to the Porsche tailing us in the mirror.
“I’d say… ten seconds, tops.”
“Someone’s about to come find you.”
I started counting with dead certainty.
“Ten.”
“Nine.”
“Eight.”
I didn’t even hit seven before a slim figure hopped out of the Porsche.
The girl rushed over, eyes strategically wet with tears.
“Lily, I swear to God I didn’t mean to cause trouble today.”
“Just needed that dress for Jason’s event. Didn’t know you were home. And I definitely didn’t think you’d mistake me for a burglar and call the cops.”
She clutched at my hand dramatically.
“This is totally on me. Please, please don’t fight with Jason over this. I’m begging you.”
“If you are really angry, just slap me.”
“As long as it’ll fix things!”
She still held my hand, practically begging me to slap her.
“Lily!” Jason snapped.
“Where are your manners?”
“My manners?” I laughed bitterly.

Typical. Whether I act or not, I’m always the villain in his story.
I yanked my hand back and met Jason’s gaze.
“Get it now?”
Something in me had finally broken.
I unbuckled my seatbelt.
“This right here is my reason.”
“Jason, I want a divorce.”
I opened the car door, catching his secretary’s expression shift from shock to barely hidden delight. I flashed her a cold smile.
“Congratulations. After years of worming your way into my marriage, you’ve won.”
“He’s all yours now.”
I turned up walked away.
Jason jumped out of the car, clamped his hand around my wrist.
“What the hell is wrong with you? I lost a million–dollar deal because of your little police stunt! I dropped everything to rush there, and for what?”
“To find out you called the cops on Amber!”
“I’ve put up with enough!”

The pain make me wince.
“Let go!”
I wrenched free, rubbing my throbbing skin.
Then I slapped him hard across the face.
“Jason!”
“I’ve had enough too!”
Ten years together.
Through all our fights, I’d never humiliated him in public like this.
But I couldn’t hold back anymore.
I faced him head–on.
“I was in the hospital with a fever while you were rescuing strays with her. My car got totaled and you were busy stargazing with her.”
“Every damn time I needed you, you picked her! And today-”

“You gave her our house code while I was knocked out on meds! She directly walked into our bedroom! And after I called the cops, you didn’t even ask if I was okay–just demanded I drop the charges!”
“Jason!”
“We’re totally DONE!”
