Chapter 7 The Garcia Family’s Gift
Elaine was instantly shocked and called Bridgette. “Philomel? Gosh! Bridie, where did you get this? How did you know Xavier respects calligraphers the most? Philomel is so mysterious. Only a handful of their works could be seen in the market. I saw one in Xavier’s study the last time I visited him. Xavier thinks very highly of Philomel!”
Bridgette was surprised. “Really? So, this piece I have is very precious?”
Elaine said, “For sure! No one has met Philomel in person, but each of their work sells for hundreds of thousands of dollars online. Even
master penmen praise Philomel.”
Could it be fake?
Bridgette wanted to ask but didn’t anyway. She smiled, “I pulled some strings to get Philomel to write this, and I wanted Sir Austin to have this tomorrow. I spent all my savings on it.”
Whether it was fake or not, if Lowell learned about this, maybe she’d draw his attention.
After all, he was leading the “audition“.
“I knew it! You’re interested in Lowe! Well then, Bridie, dress up tomorrow and impress him!” Elaine teased.
‘Stop making fun of me, Elaine.”
After hanging up the phone, Bridgette glanced at the box. She had

opened it carefully, leaving no traces at all.
As she was about to put the empty gift box back into the box, she suddenly had an idea. She found a piece of A2 paper in the room and wrote, “May You Die in Horrible Agony“.
After rolling up the paper and putting it into the gift box, she sealed the delivery box and put it back in the place where the servants usually placed packages.
No one could tell the box had already been opened once.
Sephora waited till it was dinner, but she still hadn’t received any phone call.
Seeing the tracking, which showed the package had been signed for, she went downstairs and saw the long delivery box at once. After glancing at it, she opened it directly and went back to her room with only the gift box inside.
During dinner, Bridgette was obviously in a great mood. She shot meaningful glances at Sephora from time to time.
Sunday arrived.
Sephora got up, put on a thick white down jacket, and went downstairs with the gift box in her arms.
From what Seymour had said yesterday, she figured that all she had to do was deliver the gift and check in.
She had no intention of attending the party at all.
Bridgette, on the contrary, dressed up exquisitely. She wore a fringed gown with fur draping over her shoulders, exuding an air of nobility.

However, as her arms were exposed in the air, she’d probably shiver the second she went out.
“Where are you going to, Sephora?”
Sephora glanced at her before leaving without responding at all.
Bridgette bit her lip furiously. However, at the thought of the gift box, she beamed again. She instructed one of the servants, “Bring me my gift.”
Sephora got into a taxi with the gift box.
The Austin family had already existed for more than a hundred years. It rose during World War II, and the family residence had miraculously survived the war without a scratch. After years of restoration, it now had a perfect aged look.
Limos lined up before the Austin’s mansion’s gates, and Sephora was the only one who showed up in a taxi.
Even the driver was a bit uneasy. He turned around and asked her, “Ma’am, are you sure this is the right place?”
After a second of silence, she said, “You can drop me here, thanks.”
She glanced at the meter, paid the fare, and stepped out with the gift box.
Walking past those luxury cars, she reached the main entrance expressionlessly.
“Ma’am, may I see your invitation?”
She took out her phone and showed the e–vite to the housekeeper, who

immediately took the gift box from her.
“Ms. Garcia, this way…”
“No need. I…”
Before she could finish, a boy and a girl around six years old, who were running around, bumped into the housekeeper.
The gift box was knocked to the ground and burst open.
There was nothing but a sheet of paper inside.
The housekeeper was stunned.
As he was about to pick up the paper, Sephora beat him to it.
She thought, “Seymour said it’s a gift for his business partner. The gift is actually a piece of paper?”
Her expression darkened as her gaze fell upon the words on the paper. Then, under the housekeeper’s puzzled gaze, she put away the paper.
The housekeeper was indeed baffled. He knew Xavier was looking forward to seeing Sephora–the Austin family and the Garcia family had been sharing a close bond for years, and Xavier was eager to introduce her to Lowell.
But the gift from the Garcia family….
Sephora lifted her gaze from the empty gift box and smiled gracefully and calmly, “Sorry you had to see this. I wanted it to be a surprise. I guess plans can never keep up with changes, right?”
The housekeeper immediately smiled, “It’s fine. If you need anything,

just let me know. I’ll prepare them for you.”
Nodding, she smiled, “I might indeed need your help later.”
“Alright. Come inside and have some rest first.”
An attendant then escorted her to the guest lounge.
The male guests were in tailored suits, and the female guests wore dazzling gowns. Sephora, in her down jacket, seemed out of place.
She took out her phone and texted Seymour.
She knew Seymour had always been calm and composed. Even if he had a row with his business partners, he’d never send such a gift on their birthday.
She texted, “Seymour, what’s your gift?”
Seymour replied, “You didn’t open it?”
She was a bit nervous. “Calligraphy? Or a painting?”
Seymour sent her a grinning emoji and texted, “It’s a calligraphic work of Philomel I won at an auction. I know Sir Austin is a big fan of Philomel, so I decided to let him have it.”
Sephora was stunned. “A work of Philomel?“.
He texted, “Yes. Sephie, you’re into calligraphy, too, so you’ve probably heard of Philomel, the leading calligrapher of the new generation, right? Philomel’s works are always so rare and immensely valuable.”
Staring at the phone screen, Sephora didn’t know how to reply to him.

Back in the day, when she was learning calligraphy, she had met a bunch of friends online. She had used the name “Philomel” to communicate and exchange insights with them.
Later, one of them listed her works for auction and earned a lot.
But she had a lot of interests. Soon, she grew tired of calligraphy and instead got addicted to motorcycles.

Little did she know Seymour interested in her calligraphy works.
She replied, “What was written on the work, Seymour?”

He texted, “Wish You Good Health and Long Life‘. Why? You’ve received it, haven’t you? Is something wrong?”
Not wanting him to get worried, she replied, “Not at all. I’m at the party
now.”
He replied, “Alright. Call me if anything.”
After putting down her phone, she unrolled the sheet of paper.
“May You Die in Horrible Agony“.
If it was sent to Xavier as the Garcia family’s gift…
Her gaze turned cold as she pondered, “Who wrote this? Someone around Seymour?
“Or the actual gift was switched after being delivered to me?”
By now, the guests had all arrived. Upon seeing the Austin family’s housekeeper, she walked toward him.
