Chapter 6
I spoke calmly, “Caden, why are you here if you don’t need my family?” What made you sneak into our private party?”
The event was by invitation only, and he wasn’t invited.
It was Cheryl who told the security at the door that he was the Wilson family’s son–in–law, letting him in.
Caden, exposed, was livid.
I had no intention of letting him off the hook.
I said with contempt, “And don’t forget to return that rented outfit Cheryl’s wearing!”
Cheryl stared at me in disbelief and blurted out, “Didn’t you say that was a gift for me?”
I was a VIP at Chanel, and the sales associate knew about my relationship with Caden.
After he rented the latest haute couture, she hurried to inform me, “Ms. Wilson, Mr. Parrish said he wants to rent the outfit you like…”
According to the rules, this season’s haute couture wasn’t supposed to be rented out, but the sales associate made an exception because of my relationship with Caden.
She was puzzled but didn’t dare to ask directly, so she came to me instead.
When she heard that I had broken off the engagement, the sales associate almost cried.
I felt a little sorry for her, but there was nothing I could do. All I could do was wish her luck in getting the outfit back.
Just as Cheryl finished speaking, a commotion broke out at the entrance. The sales associate was trying to rush in.
Security stopped her, but she craned her neck and yelled, “Mr. Parrish, please don’t get the outfit dirty!
“I can’t afford to pay for a dress worth hundreds of thousands!”
The young sales associate was in tears–this was likely the biggest embarrassment of her career.
The crowd glanced at Caden with gloating looks, and he turned bright red with shame.
Cheryl looked just as aggrieved. Caden’s pride was hurting, he stood tall and retorted, “It’s just a lousy dress. I’ll buy it!”
The sales associate was relieved and quickly took out the card machine, but Caden’s face turned darker than his black card.
To his shock, the machine showed “Insufficient balance“.
The situation turned into a mess that day. In the end, a middle–aged man, who knew Caden well, stepped in to help him save face.
But from that day on, he was completely shut out of the high society. circles in Los Angeles.
I had finished my paperwork and was ready to leave when I ran into
Chapters
Caden at the airport.
He looked thinner and more haggard than the last time I saw him.
He blocked my way.
“Why are you leaving?”
“Why does it matter to you?” I replied coldly.
His face seemed to flinch, showing a side of him I had never seen
before.
He lowered his head.
“That day at the hospital, I didn’t mean it.
“I really thought you were trying to use the child to force a marriage.”
Our engagement had been arranged by our parents long ago.
After I found out, I couldn’t help but keep my eyes on him.
Even though he was always indifferent toward me, I still followed him around wholeheartedly.
It wasn’t until one day when I was harassed on the street that Caden, who had already walked away, turned back, and punched the group of thugs.
In the end, his fists couldn’t take down the group of thugs, and they all ended up at the police station.
His face was bruised, but to me, it looked like the mark of a knight’s
honor.

From that moment on, I followed him like a shadow.
Until Cheryl unexpectedly returned from abroad.
The bond that had been softening between us quickly turned cold.
“Caden, what’s the point of saying all this now? It’s over.”
I ignored him and turned to walk through security.
As the plane soared into the clouds, a wave of relief washed over me.
In this life, I had finally changed the outcome.
