Chapter 3
When Joselyn heard the word “married“, her eyes lit up. Then, she said, “Maybe she won’t come for fear of being called out.”
I was done with their scoffs, so I turned around to stride out and said. “I’ll be there. I hope you can still be so confident.”
When I breathed the fresh air outside the club, I finally felt much better.
I took out my phone and played the video I received 3 years ago.
In the video, Darrell was holding Joselyn with a casual grin.
“Cecelia is boring. I love her, but she can’t give me what I want.
“I’ll go back to her when I have enough fun. She’ll make a good wife. But she may kill herself due to her love for me. So keep an eye on her.”
When I got his death certificate, I did want to kill myself.
But his friends stopped me from doing that stupid thing.
Come to think of it, their crying sounded weird only because they were using it to suppress their urge to laugh.
I put away my phone and looked at the dim street lights.
Although Darrell didn’t really die, he got out of my heart 3 years ago.
Three days later, I went to their wedding.
When Darrell saw me enter the wedding site, he looked relieved.
I took my eyes off him and was about to take a seat. But I was tripped by someone and fell to the 9–layer cake beside me.
The decorations on the cake fell with it. My fancy evening dress was covered in cream, and I became a sorry sight.
The wine glasses fell to the ground too. Glass fragments bounced and cut my face. Blood seeped out of my forehead.
A commotion sounded, and everyone’s eyes were glued to me.
The cream blurred my vision. I struggled to get up, but someone pushed me before I could stand on my feet.
Joselyn snapped above me, “Cecelia, what are you doing? We invited you to our wedding out of kindness. It’s one thing not to give us any wedding gift, but it’s another to try to ruin our wedding. You are jealous, aren’t you?”
Many people came because they heard that Tristan would come with hist mysterious wife, so they took Darrell’s side.
“I can’t believe she dares to cause trouble at Tristan’s brother’s wedding! She’s toast!”
“Look at the ring on her finger. It’s like Heart of Eternity, the ring Tristan. bought at a price 3 years ago. She’s bold!”
“Everyone knows that Tristan is in deep love with his wife. What is she. thinking of wearing a fake here?”
Darrell heard them too. He was so angry that his chest was heaving. He scowled at me.
“Cecelia, you are such a jinx! What did I see in you? Why are you still wearing that stupid ring? My brother can kill you.”
Then, Darrell walked to me, pressed his foot against my ring finger, and turned his foot from side to side.
The sharp pains from it felt like knives to my heart.
”
Joselyn noticed I wanted to struggle, so she ordered some people to hold
- me.
I couldn’t see or move, so I snarled, “Tristan is my husband!”
Darrell seemed to hear a joke and exploded into laughter. He kept hurting my finger with his foot and almost broke it.
“Why are you still lying? My brother is coming soon. He loves his wife so much. You’re doomed.”
Since Darrell didn’t believe me, I felt despair. Then, I tried hard to struggle free, to no avail.
I thought with fury, “I will not let any of you off!”
Darrell turned his foot again, and the sound of my finger breaking was clear. I moaned in pain and felt my body was lighter.
Suddenly, everyone took their eyes off me. They stood up, straightened their clothes, and gazed at the entrance.
A waiter opened the door of the party hall. Followed by many people, Tristan came in with Dylan Lawson, our son.
