Chapter 1
I did everything to win over my ice–cold childhood crush.
Braces off, LASIK surgery, complete makeover–all thanks to my yoga instructor, Jade’s advice.
She looked like an ice queen but had the wildest dating life. Sometimes she’d even send me on emergency condom runs.
But just as I was ready to confess my feelings, she called:
“Babe, bring me some Plan B, quick!”
Her voice was breathless and satisfied: “Jackpot! Never had a virgin with that much stamina!”
When she hung up and sent me the address, my heart sank.
Because the location was my childhood crush, Kieran Whitmore’s house.
I stood outside Kieran Whitmore’s front door, unable to work up the courage to knock.
For years, I’d stood here every morning waiting for him to leave for school. Every evening. I’d bring him dinner.
But this time, clutching the Plan B I’d just bought, I couldn’t bring myself to…
While I hesitated, Jade sent another message:
[Just hang it on the door handle! DON’T knock!]
I was confused when she followed up with several voice messages:
[I was SO wrong about him before–this virgin’s got some serious skills now~]
Jade’s voice was breathless, tinged with excitement:
[Sure, his technique can’t compete with the players, but damn if that raw energy didn’t wreck me completely…]
Her words cut off abruptly.
After some rustling sounds, the chat went quiet.
Meanwhile, I could hear Jade’s sultry moans coming from inside the house.
Fighting back the bitter taste in my mouth, I held my finger over the keypad. In the end, I couldn’t bring myself to press the numbers.
I hung the Plan B on the door handle, texted Jade back with a simple “Okay,” and fled like a deserter.
I’d imagined a hundred different ways Kieran might react to my confession. The worst–case scenario was just him turning me down.
I never expected it would suffocate me like this.

Chapter 1
Chutching my carefully written eight hundred word love letter, I hid in a corner and cried my eyes out until nightfall. Only then did I drag myself home with putty red eyes.
When I got home, Dad poked his head out of the kitchen.
“Chloe’s back! How was your day, sweetheart?”
I mumbled something noncommittal and headed for my room when Mom grabbed my arm.
“Where are you going?
Before I could answer, she swatted my arm playfully
“Chloe, how could you forget such an important day?”
I stared at her blankly, still not remembering, when I saw Kieran casually unlock our door and walk in with a bag of fruit.
Mom immediately let go of me and rushed to greet him with a bright smile.
That’s when it hit me–today was Kieran’s birthday. That’s exactly why I’d chosen today for my confession.
But now I couldn’t face him…
Kieran acted like nothing had happened, heading to the kitchen to help Dad. I used the time to wash my face and make myself look less pathetic.
When I emerged, dinner and birthday cake were already on the table. In the flickering candlelight, I found myself staring at Kieran’s aristocratic profile, unable to stop thinking about him and Jade together,
Jade was experienced. She’d often brag about the kinky stuff she’d done with her hookups…
“Kieran, you and our Chloe have been like childhood sweethearts,” Dad said after a few drinks, his eyes getting misty. “Your parents have been gone for years now, and your Aunt Grace and I… we’ve always thought of you as our own son…”
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked up at Dad. I was about to interrupt when Mom gently patted my hand under the table and
shook her head.
I heard my usually steady father’s voice trembling as he spoke to Kieran:
“We’ve watched how much Chloe adores you. You’re both adults now, heading to college together… Uncle hopes…”
Dad trailed off, then downed another glass like he was gathering courage.
“I’ve watched you grow up. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with her. You’ll take good care of Chloe, won’t you?”
The atmosphere suddenly felt frozen. Mom and Dad both looked at Kieran with hopeful eyes. I could feel Mom’s body trembling slightly.
But Kieran’s expression remained unchanged–calm and detached as always. His long fingers drummed against his wine glass.
Just as I shot up, ready to defuse the situation, I heard Kieran say, “Yeah.”
He looked up at my dad, his voice steady: “I will.”
