My whole life, I’d been obedient, going to school on schedule, living between two points.
Changing myself for Kieran was about the bravest thing I’d ever done–let alone making a scene in public.
But right now, I was fearless.
I bought a megaphone and stood in the middle of the crowded street, shouting my need: “I’ll pay any amount to anyone who can save my dad!”
At first, people thought I was just trying to get attention. But when they saw me crying and pleading desperately, some stopped to listen.
Then a few food bloggers turned their cameras on me, helping me find the right people.
Before I knew it, the livestream had hit the local trending page. Within ten minutes, dozens of people with matching blood types were rushing to the hospital.
I didn’t care how pathetic I looked. I didn’t have the energy to read the encouraging comments from kind strangers.
Not until the doctor said Dad was out of danger and Mom had been moved to a regular room where she just needed rest.
Only then did my frayed nerves finally relax.
From the emotional rollercoaster, I collapsed right there in the hospital hallway.
When I woke up, my phone showed dozens of missed calls from Kieran.
I let out a heavy breath, feeling nothing but regret.
Regret that years of wholehearted devotion had led to this result.
I turned off my phone screen, not wanting to deal with it.
Forcing myself to stand, I walked out to find that all those kind people who’d donated blood had left without even giving their names.
Even the food bloggers, seeing I was in bad shape, hadn’t bothered me. They’d just left fruits and supplements at the nurses‘ station.
I stood there stunned. The tears I’d been holding back finally fell
Sometimes strangers show more kindness than the so called family you live with every day.
I picked up my parents‘ phones and unlinked their emergency contact cards for Kieran, setting his messages to “do not disturb.”
That’s when I noticed Kieran had gone to the beach with Jade at dawn to watch the sunrise
His caption read: [Last escape.]
I didn’t think much of it and hurried to the hospital room. Seeing my parents weak but out of danger, I finally breathed a sigh of
relief.
A few days later, they caught the hit–and–run driver. Along with criminal charges, we received a substantial compensation payment.

Chapter 7
Ten days later, my parents had recovered enough to be discharged.
During those days, I’d quietly made up my mind. I would work hard in college and find a good job there.
California’s weather is perfect for my parents‘ retirement,
Nothing was more important than our family staying together.
I just never expected that on the way home from the hospital, we’d run into Kieran and Jade.
Standing next to Jade was… a man in an expensive suit.
