Chapter 4
Dominic stared at me for a long time, then frustrated, shoved me away and drove back to his pack house.
He had a beta female bathe me and change my clothes. After much coaxing, I managed to eat some broth.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to eat. I was terrified to.
They loved to lay out fresh deer meat when I was starving. If I reached for a taste, the punishment came swiftly. Even looking too longingly was enough to set them off.
After enough silver burns, I stopped looking at food altogether.
“Don’t like it? Still acting like a proud alpha female? You’re definitely still the same defiant wolf underneath. Fine, let’s out for dinner.” Dominic finally smiled for once. Seeing that smile, I nearly burst into tears from panic.
At the Silver Fang restaurant, I curled up in the corner, staring at my feet. I never touched my plate of cured beef, which finally set Dominic off.
“What’s your problem? Too busy missing your new mate to eat? Maeve, how dare you bond with someone after just two monthes?”
“Just because I made you work at a waitress, now you won’t even eat with me? Could you drop the attitude for just one second? Who else would give a damn about you except me!”
My trembling hands reached for the fork after his words, but when I sensed someone approaching, I dropped it. My face went white as I tried to hide under the table.
Dominic grabbed me quickly. Before he could say anything, the newcomer caught his attention.
“Alpha Blackthorn, what an unexpected pleasure!”
It was Garrett Sloan. His scent made me shake even harder, but Dominic forced me to stay in my chair, making me face Garrett’s predatory gaze.
I couldn’t look at Garrett. During those two moon cycles, he was the cruelest wolf. Most of the worst torments I endured came from him.
Just sensing his presence made me tremble with terror, my wolf desperately trying to flee.
“Why are you hiding? You should be ashamed. Go apologize to your sister, reflect on what you did, and never do it again…”
Before Dominic finished, Garrett casually sat across from me, looking me up and down like prey.
“Look who’s here–the most broken bitch from Crimson Cavern! Alpha Blackthorn, why are you still bothering with this used–up trash? Let me hook you up with someone fresh!”
“Maeve’s been passed around so much there’s nothing left–we have completely dominated her inside and out…”
Dominic’s face froze. He stared at me in total disbelief.
