Chapter 23
Linda turned around. Standing at the door was Joel, who had just rushed back.
He had already changed out of his white coat. A light gray sweater and white cropped pants made him look youthful, and his handsome face was full of worry. His slightly messy fringe only added to his charm.
“Joel, go get the needles!” Eleanor urged the moment she saw him.
Still panting, Joel frowned when he heard this. “What needles?”
Eleanor: “Your grandma fainted. We need to prick the soles of her feet to wake her up.”
“Ridiculous!” said Joel. “Whose terrible idea was that?”
Eleanor blinked. Wasn’t what Linda said correct?
Elaine chimed in, “It was Linda.”
“Linda? What does a girl like her know? That’s absurd!” As he spoke, Joel had already begun checking Edith’s condition.
Elaine quickly said in a soft voice, “Joel, don’t blame Linda. She meant well.”
“For Grandma’s good? Getting her so worked up she fainted—that’s your idea of good?” snapped Joel.
In the Preston family, elders were always held in the highest regard. Making an elder faint? That was unheard of.
Elaine immediately shut her mouth. But a faint, imperceptible smile flickered in her eyes.

“Joel, don’t blame your sister. She didn’t mean any harm.” Eleanor said, but only then did she realize Linda was disappeared.
“Wait, where’s Linda?”
“She probably ran off, afraid of being scolded by Joel,” Elaine said sadly.
Eleanor frowned. “Elaine, enough.”
Elaine quickly waved her hands. “Mom, don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t blaming Linda… ”
“Shut it!” Joel glared at her.
She was chirping like an annoying sparrow, making it impossible for him to take Edith’s pulse in peace.
Elaine had no choice but to remain silent.

That was close! She thought. She’d nearly been roped into a mess by Elaine again, and she still hadn’t even changed her clothes yet.

Just as she finished tidying up, someone knocked on the

“Come in.” Linda called out.
The door handle turned, and Joel appeared in the doorway.
He was tall and long–legged, with strikingly handsome features. He leaned lazily against the doorframe, but his handsome face was filled with
anger.
“Hello, Joel,” Linda hesitated for a few seconds before greeting him. After all, she was a little uneasy.
She stood still next to the TV stand and didn’t go over.
She wasn’t sure if Joel had seen her clearly at that time. If he did recognize her, should she deny it to the death and insist he was mistaken? Or should she come clean and make up a story about where her medical skills came from?
“Linda,” Joel stood at the door without entering. When he saw her just standing there, unmoving, his anger deepened.

Was she not taking him seriously as her brother? He thought.
Linda instantly sensed something was off in his attitude. As expected, Joel opened his mouth, and the venom poured out.
“Is your brain damaged?” Joel’s gaze was sharp as a blade. “Sticking needles into the soles of someone’s feet–do you have even a shred of common sense? Are you an idiot? You made Grandma faint! What next, trying to kill her?”
Was this brainless girl really his biological sister? Thought Joel. Did she have even a single
ounce of sense?
