Malcolm was howling with laughter.
His giggles faded as the room grew colder.
He glanced up, meeting Jasper’s chilling, deadly stare.
Malcolm sat up, faking anger. “That girl’s out of line! Dumping you like that? If not for you, would she even be back with the Prestons? She needs a wake–up call…”
“Who’re you callin
out?” Jasper asked, his voice sharp and low, pinning Malcolm with a glare.
That voice–clear, calm, like the man himself.
At twenty–five, Jasper was all sharp–minded control.
Malcolm shuddered but doubled down. “Dude, she’s tossing you aside, and you’re still on her side? That chick…”
“She’s your sister–in–law,” Jasper interrupted, his eyes flashing a warning.
Malcolm froze.
‘Dude’s whipped, he thought. ‘Dumped and still loyal? That’s just sad.‘
He was whining inside, yet he didn’t dare say it, switching to smooth talk.
“What’s going on with my dear sister–in–law?” he asked, “Something up? No way she’d bail–she’s nuts about you!”
Jasper glanced at his assistant. “Find out.”
“Yes, sir,” Miles said, nodding and heading out of the living room.
Miles was stunned, too
Linda used to be all over Jasper. Now, as his official fiancée, she was walking away…
That didn’t make any sense.
‘Something’s not right,‘ he thought.

Linda had just closed her door when her phone buzzed.
She stared at the name, shocked.
It was Adrian Carver, her best guy friend.
Last life, they’d hit it off fast while filming together her first year in the entertainment industry.
They were like sister and brother.
She’d been trashed online for years, while Adrian soared, now a top name in the industry.
When Adrian heard about her engagement to Jasper, he’d pleaded with her to rethink it, even threatening to cut contact.
However, Linda chose Jasper, eventually, which was a big mistake.
To be Mrs. Vaughn, she’d dropped everything–friends, career, herself.

love.
“Linda, I know you’re busy planning to be Mrs. Vaughn, probably too big for us now,” Adrian said, his tone frosty. “But Avery’s in trouble. Car accident. Doctors say she might lose a leg to survive.”
“No! Don’t let them!” Linda gasped, memories hitting hard, too raw to mind Adrian’s cold attitude.
Avery Quinn was her best friend from high school.

She was a great dancer, and very talented one.
They all knew that given time, she’d have a shot at the world stage.
Last life, just on the same day today, Avery’s accident took her legs and her dreams..
She woke up, couldn’t cope with disability, got dumped by her boyfriend, and fell apart. She even tried to end it multiple times.
The last time, she succeeded.
Linda, even after centuries in other worlds, could still see it: Avery in a pool of blood, still, a faint smile on her face.
Death was her way out.
‘How much pain makes death feel like freedom?‘ Linda wondered.
That lively girl didn’t deserve that agony.
“Don’t let them what?”
asked, his voice sharp.
