Chapter 10
Harrison’s phone buzzed.
Seeing Emily’s name flash across the screen, he frowned–just slightly.
“Hey, Harrison,” her voice was sweet, almost giddy. “I’ve got incredible news… I’m
pregnant.”
He froze for a second, then a smile gradually spread across his face.
“I’ll come get you.”
Harrison drove straight to her place. The moment he saw the ultrasound printout in her hand, he couldn’t stop grinning.
He had loved Lily fiercely. But deep down, he’d always yearned for a son.
The only catch? Olivia had never wanted more children. She’d said she wanted to give Lily all of her love–no sharing.
And Harrison, who once loved her enough to respect that, had never pushed.
But now…
“You’re amazing, Emily,” he murmured, brushing her hair back.
Emily wrapped her arms around his neck, her voice playfully scolding, “Then stop being so rough
with me. You’ll hurt the baby.”
“There won’t be a next time,” Harrison promised.
“Then…” She paused, eyes gleaming. “Then shouldn’t we get married?” she said sweetly. “I don’t want our baby born out of wedlock.”
Still basking in the glow of impending fatherhood, Harrison agreed without hesitation.
They’d throw a grand engagement party first. Once the baby arrived, they’d do a family wedding photo shoot, then have the official ceremony. After that, he’d figure out how to ease Olivia back into
the picture.
What Harrison didn’t know was that Emily’s pregnancy was a lie.
She’d sensed his growing distance and faked the ultrasound with the help of a friend at a clinic.
She’d forged everything–tests, printouts, even prescriptions–just to keep him close a little

longer.
Blinded by the prospect of a son, Harrison missed every red flag. He threw himself into planning the engagement party, doting on Emily day and night, completely forgetting about Olivia and Lily.
One week later, Harrison hosted a lavish engagement gala, inviting every major name in Rivermont –from old–money families to movie stars.
Just hours before the party, Harrison was applying lipstick to Emily’s lips with the same careful gentleness he once gave Olivia.
“Mr. Lowell,” he said urgently, “Mrs.–uh, I mean… Miss Bennett. She’s not at the hospital or the estate.”
Emily’s face darkened instantly.
“Did you just call her Mrs.?” she snapped, grabbing the nearest glass of water and hurling it at the
man.
“I’m sorry! I meant Miss Bennett–Miss Bennett is missing,” he stammered.
Emily snapped. “Fire him. I never want that idiot near us again.”
The bodyguard dropped to his knees, begging for forgiveness.
But Harrison didn’t respond. He was lost in thought.
Olivia’s missing…
Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t seen her in days. Maybe even a week.
Was she even healed yet?
Usually, even after the nastiest of arguments, she’d come back to him within a day. Never more than twenty–four hours.
But this time… No calls. No texts. Not even a whisper.
And for the first time in years, Harrison felt something gnawing at the edge of his composure- unease. A strange, rising fear.
But it’s her fault, he reminded himself. She humiliated Emily, hit her in front of everyone, and made a scene.

If she didn’t get a taste of consequence, she’d never learn.
She’s just hiding, he told himself. Playing her usual game–waiting for him to panic and beg.
In the past, that’s exactly what he would’ve done.
But not this time.
This time, he wanted to let her stew. Let her feel the weight of silence. Only then would she finally learn to behave. Once she’d learned her lesson, he’d go find her, apologize, and remarry her. Emily’s baby–his son–could be raised by Olivia. She’d make a perfect stepmother
One big happy family.
“Forget it,” he said coldly. “As long as she doesn’t ruin the engagement party, let her hide.”
