Julian forced a shaky smile.
“Savannah… I finally found you.”
“You don’t have to be scared anymore. I saw what just happened. That guy was 1 lempo

trying to mess with you.
He struggled to get up, but Ben had him pinned with one arm-

Julian couldn’t even lift his chest off the floor. The more he tried, the more humiliating it became. His face flushed with effort and shame.
Ben let out a sharp laugh.
“Mess with her? You serious?”
“She’s the most important person in my life. She’s family. We were just arguing, like normal people do.
“At least I don’t take her for granted. I don’t use her silence as permission to hurt her Julian’s whole face went crimson. Not just from anger–but from the sting of truth.

But all he heard was most important person.
His eyes snapped toward Ben, filled with bitter jealousy.
“What the hell are you to her?”
Before anyone could answer, Savannah walked over–expression unreadable.
She gave Bena small shake of the head.
And just like that, he let Julian go.
Julian staggered upright, only to see their hands still clasped together. It stabbed deeper than anything.
His eyes were bloodshot, his face pale and hollowed out from exhaustion and heartbreak.
He stared at Savannah with a hope so fragile it could shatter at a whisper.
“Savannah, I—-”
“I’m sorry, sir. I don’t know you.” Her voice didn’t waver–cold, measured, and distant. “I go by Savannah, sure. But maybe I’m not the woman you think you’re looking for.”
She turned to Ben with a calm smile.
“Let’s go. No point wasting time on someone like this.”
Julian stood there, stunned. Her words hit harder than any punch.
She didn’t just reject him+she erased him.
Still, he chased after her, stumbling forward like a man lost in a nightmare.
“Savannah, don’t do this. You are her. I know you are.”
“You’re mad at me, I get it. I was blind, stupid. I let Delilah mess with my head. But everything she did—I know now.” “We were married, Savannah. We went through so much together. Doesn’t any of that mean something to you?”
Savannah paused, her back still turned.

Then she looked over her shoulder and asked lightly, “Married?”
“Okay then, show me the proof.”
That stopped him cold.
Her voice hadn’t risen. Her words weren’t cruel. But they cut deeper than any scream.
Julian froze–completely silent.
He couldn’t show her anything.
He was the one who signed the divorce papers.
He was the one who made sure her identity no longer legally existed.
Now, he had nothing. No photos. No records. Not a single piece of paper to prove she’d ever been part of his life.
He stood there, hollow.
But he still couldn’t stop following her.
From the clinic, through the street, all the way back to the place she now called home.
Hoping. Praying. Just waiting for her to turn around, even once.
She never did.
She laughed with Ben the whole way–calm, relaxed. Like Julian was nothing more than background noise.
When they stepped inside, Savannah’s mother had just been chatting with Carol.
But the moment she saw Julian, her entire expression shifted.
Her face turned to stone.
She didn’t wait for an explanation. Didn’t let Mrs. Carter stop her.
She stormed forward and slapped Julian–hard. Then again. And again.
Julian staggered back, face red and stinging. But instead of getting angry, he let out a breathless laugh.
His voice trembled with something close to hope.
“You remember me,” he said, eyes shining. “You do remember me. Neither of you forgot–right? You and Savannah… you still
remember me?”
Savannah’s mother flexed the fingers she’d just used to strike him, then looked him dead in the eyes.
“I remember something.”
“That I never liked you to begin with.”
