Snapping back to reality from the nightmare
of my death. I grabbed my purse and left
“Our agency is too small for a big star like
you. If you’re that confident in your looks, why
not find a rich old guy to marry?”
Chloe raised her hand, about to slap me.
Then she grabbed my hand and dramatically
fell backward.
“Ashley, I didn’t mean to, why did you…”
She fell, not coincidentally, right onto Mark,
my husband, who had just walked in.
Mark instinctively helped her up, looking at
me for an explanation.
“Honey, what happened?”
He knew my relationship with my family was
strained.
I shook my head wearily. “Nothing. Let’s go.”
Chloe wouldn’t let it go, clinging to Mark’s shirt, subtly pushing her chest forward.
“Mark, I just said I wanted to join your agency, and Ashley threw a huge fit.”
“Is she like this at home too? My mom says a
woman’s most important job is to make her
man feel comfortable when he gets home
from work. How can she treat you like this?”
She draped her arm over his shoulder, looking
at me defiantly.

Mark lot
The next second, Mark let go.
Chloe shrieked as she landed hard on the
floor.
He didn’t even glance at her, just took my
hand and walked out.
As soon as the door closed, Mark started
massaging my shoulders. “Honey, she was talking nonsense, don’t listen to her!”
I glanced at him without speaking.
They all thought I’d married well, snagging a
CEO and living the high life.
But they didn’t know this was all mine to
begin with.
Mark’s high life? I gave it to him.
Betray me?
He wouldn’t dare.
