I left early the next morning.
If I remembered correctly, I should be
pregnant around this time.
In my past life, I was busy with research and assumed my missed period was due to stress,
not realizing I was pregnant until I started
experiencing morning sickness.
I touched my stomach as I entered the
OB/GYN, feeling a flicker of joy.
Mark and I had been married for years and
always wanted a child.

We met in college; he came from a modest background but had a sharp business mind.
Shortly after we started dating, I inherited a substantial sum from my mother. It was her pre–marital property, which my family knew
nothing about.
Knowing Mark wanted to start a business, I entrusted part of the money to him, treating it
as a venture capital investment.
With that money, he founded the
entertainment agency, which grew into a
leading company in the industry.
But I was the majority shareholder, and our
prenuptial agreement clearly stated that if he
cheated, all assets would revert to me.
Everything he had was in my hands; I never
doubted his love.
But thinking about the scene I witnessed on
the monitor last night, and Mark taking so long in the shower, I started having second
thoughts.
Lost in thought, I heard the nurse call my
number.
As I stepped into the exam room, I heard
voices from behind the curtain.
The clinic was small, with only a thin curtain
separating the two exam rooms, offering
practically zero soundproofing.
“Honey, I told you, my mom said I have child-

“Honey, I told you, my mom said I have child- bearing hips. If you marry me, I guarantee you’ll have sons. Look at my mom, she’s still
fertile at her age!”
The voice was unmistakable: Chloe’s.
Before I could process how she’d gotten into a relationship so quickly, I heard Mark’s voice.
“Doctor, please check her thoroughly,
prescribe whatever she needs to regulate her
body, money is no object.”
My heart sank.
I ripped the curtain open, staring at a
flustered Mark. “Honey, what’s going on here?

flustered Mark. “Honey, what’s going on here? When did we get divorced, and when did you and my sister get together? Why wasn’t I informed?”
The entire room went silent, everyone staring
in shock.

Chapter 2
The old Chinese doctor taking Chloe’s pulse quickly withdrew his hand. “Young lady, breaking up a family is not a good thing!”
Everyone’s judgmental gaze shifted to Mark.
He was a man who valued appearances, and
his face was now crimson.
Chloe started crying. “Ashley, there’s nothing between us! He was just pretending to be my
boyfriend so I wouldn’t be embarrassed
coming to the OB/GYN alone. I’m your sister,
how could I steal your husband?”
Mark grabbed my hand. “Ashley, can we talk
about this at home?”

The onlookers, seeing the shift in the wind,
began to criticize me.
“That poor girl, her own sister is publicly
slandering her, how awful!”
“They’re both women, how can she spread
rumors about her own sister?”
“I bet she’s just a jealous wife afraid of losing
her husband!”
I snorted and turned to leave.
Before walking out, I took off my wedding
ring and threw it in his face.
“Mark, this isn’t over!”
