Chapter 19 Human Skin Scripture
Grandma had been in poor health, so the Brook family planned on throwing her a big birthday party, hoping it would bring her good luck.
Kaleb took Alena to an auction, wanting to bid on a precious antique as Grandma’s birthday gift.
She leaned to his car and whispered, “I heard Treasure Bids has just stocked some great items.”
Kaleb hadn’t been able to sleep well these days. Fatigue was written all over his face, and his eyes were dull.
He said, “I’ll buy you whatever you want.”
“You’re the best, Kaleb,” she said and was about to snuggle into his arms.
He reached out and grabbed her arms, the warning in his eyes obvious.
“What are you afraid of? It’s so dark here. No one will see us,” she whispered.
But he insisted, saying sternly, “Enough.”
“Kaleb…” She rubbed his arm, getting impatient slightly.
“The auction is about to start. See if there’s anything you like,” he said, brushing her ofl.
I saw someone take pictures of them making out.
Who was it?
It wasn’t the first time. These days, I found there were people following Kaleb.
They took photos whenever he was with Alena. It must have been at least a hundred photos by now.
Who was behind it? Kaleb’s business rival who wanted to take him down?
I guessed the person’s identity didn’t matter. Whoever exposed the pair’s affair was my ally.
Treasure Bids was an underground auction house filled with both legal and illegal treasures.
I had been here before, but for some reason, being here today made me
uneasy.
Soon, I knew why.
The first auction item was displayed on the high–definition screen. It was a very precious bracelet with the name “Celestial Rosaries“.
The auctioneer wearing a mask introduced that the two Celestial Rosaries. were what made this bracelet stand out. The bracelet could free one from nightmares and bring one good luck.
Hearing the words “free one from nightmares“, Alena said in Kaleb’s ear gently, “Kaleb, you’ve been having nightmares, right? Maybe you should bid on this.”
As Kaleb stared at the bracelet, something deep within him urged him to
obtain it.
After the auctioneer introduced it, many rich men present were already cager to raise their paddles.
Some of them purely thought the bracelet was pretty, and some believed it could indeed free one from nightmares and bring one good luck.
A gorgeous woman in a long dress walked over with a tray. As she lifted the black cloth. all of a sudden. I was sucked forward by a huge force.
I couldn’t help but scream.
I had no idea what awaited me. All I knew was my body was gone after my vision went blank.
When I opened my eyes. I saw the raised paddles in the dimly lit VIP
section.
Alena and Kaleb were in the audience.
What happened? My perspective had shifted. I was no longer confined to Kaleb’s side!
I looked around and saw the gorgeous woman in the long dress next to
- me.
Suddenly. I realized something. I was sucked into the Celestial Rosaries!
A sudden idea hit me.
Maybe my ashes were infused into Celestial Rosaries, which was why my soul was automatically sucked into it.
Did this mean my body had vanished?
I was totally dumbfounded.
Then I heard someone win the bracelet with 5 million dollars. It wasn’t exactly a shockingly high price because there were only two Celestial
Rosaries.
Then the buyer picked me up. I saw a hand with distinctive joints and then Kaleb’s obscure eves.
He ran his fingers across the bracelet, which sickened me as I felt he was touching my body.
I didn’t know why he was looking at me like this.
In the next second, he put me on his wrist, and I could feel his warm body temperature.
Kaleb outbid others for me.
Was it fate? I couldn’t escape him even after I was dead.
I stared blankly at the excited crowd. Would the truth of my death be
buried in darkness forever?
No! I refused to accept this.
“150.000 dollars!”
Alena’s voice snapped me back to reality. I looked towards the stage, and a scripture was displayed on the high–definition screen.
Something was off. The sheet of the scripture didn’t strike me as paper. Its faint gloss made me think of… human skin.
Human skin!
The ranger mentioned about peeling off my skin. Did he use it to make this scripture?
With such a thought, I pulled out of the bracelet and walked toward the scripture, trembling.
I was right. The scripture sucked me in!
It was my skin!
I broke down, crying bitterly without a tear.
I was devastated. Who did I ever offend? Who hated me this much? Who the heck would do this to me?!
Since Alena was quite fond of the scripture, Kaleb bid on it.
Since it was made from human skin, only a handful of people bid on it.
He won it with only 300,000 dollars.
After he paid, a staff member brought the scripture over.
My skin was polished and soaked in a special solution. Therefore, the scripture cover was very smooth.
Kaleb frowned, cautiously maintaining a certain distance from the
scripture.
“Ally, it’s made from human skin. I don’t think you should keep it. Maybe you should give it away.”
Alena smiled in a devil–may–care manner, “Kaleb, chill. I heard this scripture represents good luck and health. I’m sure Grandma will love it.”
Grandma?
She knew exactly Grandma was the one who loved me the most, actually wanted to give Grandma the scripture made from my skin?!
and she
I pounced at her frantically. “Alena, how come you’re not the one who’s dead?!”
However, my hands passed through her face. She didn’t feel a thing, the mockery and complacency in her eyes were unmistakable.
Sure enough, she knew I was dead.
Soon, the auction was over, and it was snowing heavily.
Under the vast sky. I roared angrily. “This isn’t fair!”
I had always been a good person, yet I ended up tragically.
On the contrary, villains lived happily!
Why couldn’t I turn into a vicious ghost and punish those who schemed against me?
My furious shout merged with the icy wind, making it even more bone- chilling as it echoed through the air.
“It’s so cold…” Alena snuggled into Kaleb’s arms.
He pushed her away hard. “Ally, we’re in public!”
She stomped her foot. “But I feel so cold, Kaleb.”
Unable to see her suffer, he took off his coat, draped it over her shoulders, and said, trying his best to be patient. “The driver will be here at any
minute.”
He closed the car door for her, and she smiled brightly, “Make sure you arrive early at Grandma’s birthday party tomorrow, OK?”
“OK. Be safe,” he said.
After she left, he got into his car.

“Mr. Harrington, are you going back to the Harrington’s residence or…
He rubbed the bridge of his nose and said, feeling exhausted. “Back to my place. Savannah is probably back by now.”
