Chapter 2
Just after Maxwell signed, his phone suddenly rang..
His assistant’s voice came through the receiver: “Mr. Reed, Miss Grant has sprained her ankle and can’t walk because of the pain…”
Maxwell’s expression changed slightly. “I’ll be right there.”
He put away his phone and looked at Jessica. “Olivia is hurt. I need to check on her. We’ll have dinner another time.”
“Don’t bother,” Jessica clutched the divorce agreement tightly. “I don’t need you to accompany me anymore.”
Maxwell frowned, seeming about to say something, but ultimately turned and left.
Jessica went straight to a law firm. The lawyer carefully reviewed the agreement and nodded: “The agreement is valid. It will take effect after a one–month cooling–off period.”
“Thank you.”
Leaving the law firm, Jessica went to the university. In the administrator’s office, she submitted her resignation letter.
“Jessica?” The administrator looked at her in surprise. “With your teaching abilities, why this sudden resignation?”
“I’m getting divorced,” Jessica said flatly. “I want to leave this city.”
The administrator sighed. “Alright… After you finish teaching your final classes this semester, you can leave.”
“Thank you.”
Jessica walked out of the office, taking a deep breath.
For her final class, she gathered her strength to enter the classroom, only to spot Maxwell and Olivia in the corner.
Maxwell sat in the back row in his business suit, with Olivia leaning against his shoulder. They whispered and laughed together, fingers intertwined.
Jessica’s heart contracted painfully.
The former Maxwell had prioritized work above all, returning to the company after only three days of their honeymoon. But now he could abandon billion–dollar contracts just to accompany Olivia to an elective class.
She took a deep breath and walked to the podium. “Today we’ll be discussing Sappho’s lyric poetry from ancient Greece…”
Throughout the class, she could hear the soft laughter from the back row.
Maxwell’s deep voice, Olivia’s coquettish responses–like knives stabbing into her heart.
When the bell rang, Jessica practically fled/from the classroom.
In the bathroom, she splashed cold water on her face. Just as she was about to leave, she heard Olivia’s voice from one of the stalls:
“Maxwell abandoned a billion–dollar contract just to chase me and attend class with me!” She boasted proudly into her phone. “You should have seen how he looked at me, like he wanted to devour me~”
Her friend asked, “If he likes you this much, why don’t you accept him?”
“Are you stupid?” Olivia scoffed. “A man of his status has women throwing themselves at him left and right. I need to keep him on the

hook–hot one minute, cold the next. That’s how I’ll keep him wrapped around my finger.”
She lowered her voice. “I don’t want to be his mistress. I want to be Mrs. Reed.”
Jessica stood motionless, her fingernails digging into her palms.
She walked out expressionlessly, passing right by Olivia.
“Professor Reid!” Olivia hurriedly hung up and grabbed her. “What did you hear?”
“Nothing important,” Jessica shook off her hand. “Your business is none of my concern.”
Olivia was about to press further when she caught sight of Maxwell approaching from the corner of her eye.
Her expression changed instantly. She grabbed Jessica’s wrist and slapped herself hard across the face!
“Slap!”
The crisp sound echoed loudly in the hallway.
“Professor…” Olivia covered her face, tears immediately flowing, her voice trembling with grievance. “I’ll stay away from Mr. Reed from now on, please don’t be angry…”
Maxwell strode over, his face dark with anger. “Jessica! Didn’t I sign the agreement? Why are you still bullying Olivia?”
“I didn’t,” Jessica looked at him calmly. “She slapped herself.”
“Mr. Reed…” Olivia sobbed, shrinking into Maxwell’s embrace. “Maybe… you should stop pursuing me. Professor Reid is so angry, scared…”
Maxwell quickly pulled her into his arms. “Don’t be afraid. She has no say over me.”

Olivia looked up with reddened eyes, timidly saying, “But Professor Reid is your wife after all. She’s forcing me to leave you, and she

She choked on her words, “I’ve never been humiliated like this…”
Maxwell’s eyes darkened as his fingertips traced her reddened cheek, softly coaxing, “Don’t be upset. I’ll let her return the favor
