After I left the hospital, the sun was shining brightly.
I squinted, raising my hand to shield my eyes.
My assistant called. “Ms. Burrell, there are some documents that need your attention.”
“Okay,” I said. “I’ll be at the office in a bit.”
I called for a driver. While I was waiting, a girl brushed past me, arguing on the phone. “I heard you and Mom talking about Stuartgi-
ng my major! Can you please respect my choices?”
She started to sob.
I tapped her on the shoulder. “If you’re determined to follow your dream, then do it. I can help you.”
She looked at me in surprise.

Chapter 2
Just then, Eric came chasing after me from the hospital.
“Aren’t you afraid your wound will open up?” I asked, my face impassive.
He shook his head, his voice hoarse. “I’m afraid if I look away for a second, someone else will snatch you away.”
I rolled my eyes.
The girl followed me. “Pretty sister, can you really help me? I have good grades, I won’t let you down.”
I smiled. “I can.”
She smiled back.
While Eric was getting water, the girl asked curiously, “Is he your boyfriend? He’s so handsome.”
I patted her head. “No.”
I paused, then added: “As long as you don’t lose your way, you can have plenty of men like him in the future.”
