He held my hand, interlocked our fingers and announced.
“This is my bride, Chloe. The CEO of the company.”
As I picked up the mic, I started. “Hello everyone, I am Chloe.”

The second I said that, the reporters were going nuts, all turning to Liam for confirmation.
I didn’t explain further, just spun around and walked off.
Liam was frozen, like I’d just spoken another language.
When he finally snapped out of it, he pushed through the reporters and chased after me.
He was in such a hurry that he knocked over a few bottles of red wine.
The white of his suit jacket was instantly stained with big red splotches.
“Chloe! Stop!” he yelled, then ordered his goons, “You guys! Stop her!”
Liam’s security detail swarmed me, blocking the elevator.
I turned to face him, and his frantic sprint had brought him right up to me. I raised an eyebrow.
“What now, Prince Charming?”
“I… the reception isn’t over. You’re the bride! You can’t leave!”
I saw it then. In his eyes, he finally understood I wasn’t messing around.
I was giving up the CEO position. I was breaking it all off.
He looked genuinely freaked out. He reached out to me, almost instinctively.
“Chloe, just stop this, okay? I can explain.”
