Chapter 5 A Gown That Doesn’t Fit

Just as Lindsey was about to push Jaelyn away, Jaelyn suddenly paused. Her expression changed slightly. She frowned and let her go

Jaclyn glanced at her waistline. Lindsey, is your dress a little too big? It looks rather loose.”

Every evening banquet was a silent competition

Dresses and jewelry were their means of flaunting status

Brands and designers were always the hot topics of gossip. Wearing last season’s pieces meant immediate social exclusion, let alone showing up in a knockoff

An illfitting dress was clearly another embarrassing misstep

People around them began to openly mock Lindsey

So she’s supposed to be Mrs. Woodward? And she can’t even get a dress that fits. Pathetic!”

Give her a break. She was just sent back from exile overseas. Having a halfway decent dress is already impressive. Look at that hair. It looked so tacky. No wonder Mr. Woodward doesn’t like her! I wonder when he’s finally going to divorce her and be done with it.”

Jaclyn acted as if she hadn’t heard a thing and turned to complain to Eliezer. Eliezer, why would you prepare a dress like that for my sister?”

Lindsey had already anticipated this whole scene. She stared blankly at Jaelyn, thinking how childish it all was

Surprisingly, Eliezer explained, There wasn’t time to ask Lindsey for her measurements. I figured you two were about the same size, so I had the designer tailor it based on yours. I didn’t expect it wouldn’t fit. There wasn’t time to make alterations.”

All the murmuring came to an abrupt halt

The smile on Jaelyn’s face almost froze

She could feel the mocking gazes from around the room. Eliezer was basically saying that she was fatter than Lindsey

Jaelyn had her eye on the dress since the Sprince S/S Show. It hadn’t been released yet and could only be acquired directly from the designer

She hadn’t expected Lindsey to be the first to wear it

What was more, not only had Eliezer given it to her, he was even defending her in public

Jaelyn took a deep breath, barely holding up her frustration as she said to Eliezer, I see. Well, next time, please be more careful.”

Eliezer lowered his gaze and looked at Lindsey. He then replied with a soft hum

Clenching her teeth, she then turned to Lindsey with a smile. By the way, Eliezer had several dresses sent over. The dresses are in different sizes, too. If you don’t mind, why don’t you go and pick one? The one on you doesn’t look good.”

Lindsey was about to decline

Though the dress didn’t fit, it was actually quite comfortable. But just as she was about to turn Jaclyn down, she suddenly changed her mind and replied with a faint smile. Sure.”

The dresses are in the room you used to stay in. Try on whichever you

like. There are still guests I need to attend to, so I won’t walk you there.”

Lindsey nodded. See you later, then.”

She lifted her gown and turned to leave, just as Eliezer bent down behind. her to help with the hem

Eliezer said with a blank expression, I’ll walk you over.”

Lindsey instinctively glanced at Jaelyn

She didn’t miss the resentment on Jaelyn’s face, though the latter soon put on a sweet delicate smile. Eliezer, Lindsey already gave me a birthday gift. Where’s yours?”

Lindsey pulled her hem from Eliezer’s hand and gave him a glance. When a girl gets upset, you have to cheer her up in time. Go get your gift for her.”

She turned and walked away without hesitation

Eliezer’s fingers tightened, but the silky dress still slipped from his palm. When he looked

steadily toward the all he could see was Lindsey’s slender figure heading

villa

Upstairs on the second floor, Lindsey walked straight to the room at the

end

Before Jaelyn was brought back, she used to live in the master bedroom with a balcony. But once the real heiress returned, she had to yield the place to her

Back then, Jaelyn didn’t even bother to hide her hostility against Lindsey. Every time she saw Lindsey, she’d tearfully complain about the hardships as she grew up She was kindenough to let her have her own room instead of taking one from the maids

What came with the change of the room was the loss of belonging. She

even found peace in that shabby little room

She sighed as she pushed open the door

The moment she switched on the light, the door behind her slammed shut and she clearly heard someone pull the key from the outside

She instinctively turned around, but suddenly, a strong hand gripped her arm tightly…
