Chapter 14
When Heath arrived at the internet café, there weren’t many people around, so the clear and distinct cursing of the thugs reached his ears. They were shouting, “What’s so special about a Pendleton girl? Just wait, and we’ll show you what we’re made of!”
Heath’s face changed when he heard the words “Pendleton girl.” He had been so busy that he’d forgotten that the young girl, Aurora, hadn’t called him yet.
Heath and Kieran walked into the alley and saw four or five thugs surrounding a girl in the corner. They could vaguely see her white sneakers and pink hooded sweatshirt.
Heath strode over, grabbed one of the thugs, and tossed him aside. He saw Aurora biting down hard on one of the men’s hands, like a ferocious
The bleached–haired thug yelled, “Mind your own business! Or we’ll break your legs!”
Heath said in a deep voice, “Kieran, don’t kill them.”
Kieran rushed forward, kicking the bleached–haired thug away. The thug hit the wall and couldn’t get up, howling in pain. Kieran’s kick had likely broken at least one of his ribs.
e other thugs became fearful, especially when Heath approached, his eyes cold as if looking at dead men.

“Get lost!” Heath’s single word sent the thugs scattering from around Aurora.
Heath walked over to find one thug still being bitten by Aurora. His hand was bloody, and he wanted to run but couldn’t.
Heath frowned and said, “Aurora,
let go.”
Aurora seemed not to hear, continuing to bite down.
Her hair was a mess, ber once–cute bun pulled apart. Her eyes were fierce, like an angry wolf.
A pang of sympathy crossed Heath’s heart. He preferred the girl who smiled while eating hot pot.
Heath crouched down, gently touched Aurora’s face, and softly said, “Aurora, be good, let go.”
Aurora blinked and slowly released her bite. The thug, now free, ran away, walling.
Aurora’s mouth was stained with blood, either the thug’s or iser own. Heath took her hand and felt how tightly she was gripping it. He had to force it open to see that she had squeezed her palm so hard it was bleeding.
Heaths picked her up and said softly, “It’s okay now, Aurora.”

Aurora’s body relaxed slightly, leaning into Heath’s embrace.
Kieran followed and asked, “Hoss, what about Olivia?”
Torget it, let’s go back.” Heath, carrying Aurora, headed for the car.
Kieran drove them back to the hotel, surprised by Heath’s gentleness. He had never seen his boss so tender with a going to become their future mistress?
Heath placed Aurora on the sofa and said, “Kieran, call Lysander Fane over.”
Bons, we re in Seaview City, and Dr. Fane is in the capital’s hospital. Kieran began, but Heath interrupted.
He arrived in Seaview yesterday. Have him come over, Heath said.

As Kieran was about to make the call, Aurora, who had been silent, grabbed Heath’s clothes. He bent down and asked, “What’s wrong, Aurora? The doctor will be here soon
Aurora shook her head and said, “I don’t need a doctor. Do you have a first aid kit? I can take care of it myself.”

Heath said, “Aurora, you’re hurt. Let the doctor check you. Be good.”
He was surprised at his own gentleness and patience.
“I really don’t need it. I can handle it myself.” Aurora insisted.
Heath had no choice but to bring her the first aid kit. Aurora picked it up and said, “I’ll borrow your
bathroom
Then she limped toward the bathroom.
She took off her clothes to find her body covered in bruises from the thugs beating. One of them had even cut her arm with a knife, and her face was red and swollen from being slapped.
Fortunately, her head was uninjured, though her scalp hurt from having her hair pulled.
She gritted her teeth, combed her hair, applied medicine to the bruises, cleaned the wound on her arm with iodine, and bandaged it.
Treating wounds was a minor matter for her, and she was used to taking care of herself. As an assassin, there were never any doctors around, so even as Aurora, she wouldn’t allow herself to become accustomed to luxury.
Most importantly, she needed to see her wounds to remember the humiliation she had suffered today.
If she had been Olivia, those thugs wouldn’t have been able to touch even the hem of her garment. But today, she had nearly been beaten to death or humiliated by those men.
She had originally only wanted to rise within the Pendleton family, but since Madeline and her daughter were relentless, she would fight them to the end. Everything she had suffered today, she would take back from them, piece by piece!
