Brenda saw Julian and excitedly rushed forward. “Mr. Sterling! You wouldn’t believe it, but some wretched woman snuck into your and Mrs. Sterling’s wedding! She not only impersonated Mrs. Sterling, but she even wore a wedding dress to try and seduce you!”
“Impersonating my wife?” Julian was completely bewildered.
I was still slumped on the ground, partially hidden by the others, so he hadn’t yet seen that the “wretched woman” they spoke of was me.
Mr. Davies also hurried forward, fawning over Julian. “Mr. Sterling, I’m Mr. Davies from the Business Department! Brenda is absolutely right, that wretch even stole the Sterling family’s heirloom! We told her to take it off and return it to Mrs. Sterling, and guess what? She got defiant and smashed it into smithereens!”
Julian’s eyes darkened. “Hmph. Who is it? Who would dare to bully my wife like this?!”
Mr. Davies pointed at me. “Mr. Sterling, it’s her! How do you want to deal with her this time?”
“It’s her!” Brenda yelled.
“That’s right! I went to pull her dress off, and she refused to take it off!”
He completely missed the change in Julian’s expression. Julian backhanded Mr. Davies, hitting him squarely.
Mr. Davies was stunned. Mr… Mr. Sterling, why did you…?”
Julian came over and helped me up, taking off his suit jacket and draping it over my shoulders. “Are you okay? Did they do all this to you?”
I nodded.
Brenda still wouldn’t give up. “Mr. Sterling, it’s Mrs. Sterling who’s marrying you today! How can you hug this wretch in front of your wife?! How heartbroken must Mrs. Sterling be?!”
“My wife?” Julian turned to look at her.
Ashley had been cowering in a corner, too scared to move. Now she was quietly trying to open the door and sneak out.
“Mrs. Sterling, where are you going?” I called out directly to her.

Brenda excitedly replied, “Yes! We received news that Mrs. Sterling would be joining our department as an intern, and that’s Miss Ashley, isn’t it?”
Julian’s face instantly darkened, sending a chill down everyone’s spines. “I told you to take care of my wife, and you couldn’t even identify the right person.”
“Wrong?!” Mr. Davies‘ eyes widened in disbelief. It took him a moment to process. “Then, then Mrs. Sterling must be…”
At this point, Brenda’s arrogant swagger vanished. “No, that’s impossible! The CEO’s wife is clearly the heiress of the Sterling family! How could it be Chloe?!”
That’s a point I could clear up for her. I scoffed. “Is it against the rules to take my mother’s maiden name? Not just anyone named Sterling is part of *our* Sterling family.”
Brenda heard that and plopped right onto the floor. She crawled over to Ashley, tugging at her skirt.
“Ma’am, please say something! We’ve completely offended Chloe! How can she be the CEO’s wife?! Say something, please!”
