Chapter 7
Ashley’s face turned deathly pale, her eyes wide with terror. Her body trembled slightly, as if enveloped by an invisible fear.
She frantically looked around, searching for an escape route.
“I… i have something to do, I’m leaving first…”
She tried to run, but by then, Julian’s security team had surrounded the bridal suite door.
“Trying to run? You’re the first one brave enough to cause trouble at a Sterling family wedding.”
Mr. Davies was sweating profusely. He dropped to his knees before me with a thud. “Ma’am, I was wrong! I was completely blind to have mistaken that wretch for you!”
“If I could do it over, I would definitely recognize you! Please, please, forgive me!”
Brenda also crawled towards me, sobbing and kowtowing repeatedly. “It was all *her* doing! She made us do it, Ma’am! If I had known *you* were the real Mrs. Sterling, I wouldn’t have dared to lay a finger on you, not for a million bucks!”
These two changed faces faster than flipping a book.
“What happened? Where’s all your arrogance from a moment ago? Didn’t I tell you who I was? How did you treat me?”
“You hit me,
humiliated me, slandered me, even took advantage of me, and then you broke my grandfather’s keepsake!”
I coughed, seething with anger. “The bracelet is shattered. How am I supposed to forgive you?”
Mr. Davies kept kowtowing. “I’ll work like a dog for Sterling Industries my whole life, if that’s what it takes! Let my salary cover the damages!”
“Yes, yes, me too! Whatever it takes, as long as you let us off, Ma’am! We’ll do anything!”
With that, Brenda stood up, walked quickly to Ashley, and slapped her hard across the face. “You wretch! How dare you impersonate our Mrs. Sterling?! You’re asking for it!”
Ashley was stunned, falling to the ground, clutching her face as she stared at Brenda in disbelief. “You… you dared to hit me?!”
“Hit you? What, is there a special time for it?! I think you’re addicted to playing dress–up!”
The two of them instantly started brawling. Brenda was bigger, so Ashley was no match for her. She was pinned to the ground, her face getting
scratched.
And Mr. Davies, fueled by anger, also rushed over and delivered a few slaps of his own, venting his frustration. “I can’t believe I was praising you and putting you on a pedestal! You’re just a fake!”
Watching the three of them fight like rabid dogs, I felt nothing but irritation.
“Julian, make them leave.”
Julian gently patted my shoulder. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.”
“Guards! Call the police! Not a single person who bullied my wife today will get away with it. Calculate all the damages. If they can’t pay, they’ll rot in prison!”
The three of them stopped fighting. Mr. Davies‘ voice trembled. “Mr… Mr. Sterling, roughly how much money are we talking about?”
I scoffed, my voice cold. “The golden tiara, eight hundred eighty thousand. The haute couture wedding dress, five million. The diamond necklace, ten million. And my Sterling family heirloom, if you absolutely need a valuation, it’s at least one hundred million. Go ahead and pay up.”
“One… one hundred million?! It’s over! My life is completely over!” Mr. Davies‘ eyes rolled back, and he fainted on the spot.
