Chapter 2
On the other end of the call, Gavin was surprised by how easily Liora agreed. His cold expression slowly twisted into a pleased smile.
“You finally came to your senses? I’m doing this for your own good. If the eldest son of the Collen family hadn’t suddenly gone mute five years ago, he’d already be the heir to the Collen family in New York by now!
‘You’ll return to New York tomorrow. I’ll take you to the Collen family to discuss the engagement.”
Liora’s lips curved slightly, her expression icy and indifferent.
Everyone in New York knew that once Nathan Collen lost his voice, Sylvia Collen stopped favoring him.
She didn’t give Gavin a direct answer.
“I’ll marry him, but you have to agree to t
conditions.
“First, I need seven days. Second, I want every single belonging my father left behind—nothing can be withheld or hidden from me.”
She needed those seven days–to say goodbye to her best friend, and to erase the nude loan videos from Greg’s computer, replacing them with the evidence she’d gathered of Talia’s years of abuse.
“Fine, I’ll agree!”
After hanging up, Liora walked toward home.

Then she laughed coldly and began tossing all the couple items she’d once shared with Greg to the floor, stomping on them until they broke.
Once she finished venting, Liora sat down in front of Greg’s laptop and tried to guess the password.
She typed in a few attempts–wrong every time.
Suddenly, she heard the door open behind her, and she slammed the laptop shut in a panic.
“I heard from the manager that you requested seven days off. Are you feeling okay?” Greg asked as he walked inside, his dark eyes filled with
concern.
Liora’s hands clenched tightly at her sides.
“Yeah, I’m not feeling great.”
Greg reached out and ruffled her hair gently as if to comfort her. After confirming she didn’t have a serious illness, he suddenly pulled out a diamond ring.
Then, kneeling on one knee, he gazed up at her with those deep, dark
eyes.
“Liora, from the moment you were willing to take out a nude loan for me, I knew–I’d never marry anyone else but you. Will you be my wife?”
Liora looked down at Greg in silence.

If she hadn’t overheard what he said in that private room earlier, she might’ve been moved to tears by now.
“Okay.”
She gave her answer out loud–but in her heart, she muttered, “Greg, in this life and the next, I would never marry you.”
Hearing her agree, Greg’s eyes crinkled with satisfaction as he slipped the ring onto her finger.
Seven days from now, we’ll hold our wedding.”
The moment he said that Liora’s entire body stiffened, and she almost burst into bitter laughter.
But soon, Greg acted like nothing had happened and took her out for a late–night snack.
They went to a barbecue shack.
Liora sat down first while Greg went to place their order.
Just then, a red sports car screeched to a halt in front of her. Out stepped an unwelcome visitor.
The woman was strikingly beautiful, dressed in the latest designer loungewear from Balenciaga, carrying a rare–skin Hermès bag over one shoulder.
It was Talia–Liora’s living nightmare for over a decade.
Talia looked around the food stall with a hint of disdain, her gaze quickly landing on Liora with undisguised contempt. Her red lips curled into a mocking smile.

“After three years without seeing you, I hear you’re dating now.
“What a coincidence–your little waiter boyfriend and my guardian angel share the same last name, Alston.
“But your man takes you to eat this cheap, greasy junk? If I were dating Mr. Alston, he’d never let me eat anything so filthy.”
Liora said nothing. She simply stared at her in silence.
Her gaze was calm–like a still, lifeless pond. Then, after a long pause, she spoke up with a completely unrelated comment.

“Three years ago, when you fell from that building–it wasn’t me who pushed you.”
Talia blinked, caught off guard. She hadn’t expected her to bring that up.
Liora ignored her expression and continued.
“That day, it was you and your lackeys who dragged me up to the rooftop and forced me to swallow a cigarette butt. You kept backing up, trying to get a better angle to record my humiliation, and then you slipped and fell -by accident,
“I was the real victim, but your little minions didn’t want to get in trouble, so they all claimed that I lured you up there and pushed you off the roof.”
Back then, she was falsely accused, but every single piece of school surveillance footage that could’ve proven she wasn’t on the rooftop had already been destroyed by the Renner family.
But she’d had the foresight to save something.
Talia raised a brow in surprise, but there wasn’t a trace of fear in her expression.

“So what if you were innocent? As long as Mr. Alston’s on my side, who in this whole city will ever believe you?”
Liora frowned and suddenly looked up, her voice cold.
“I just don’t get it. I’ve never done anything to you–so why have you always gone out of your way to torment me?”
“Why?”
Talia sneered, towering over her with a superior air.
“Someone like you, cursed to bring death to your own parents, dares to compete with me for attention? You had no right to shine at that school!“.
The accusation struck hard. Liora’s knuckles turned white, and her eyes darkened.
“Then what about you?
“Your mother died because your dad beat her–and you just stood there, watching. You never even called an ambulance. She begged you for help, and you ignored her like a cold–blooded monster.
“My parents died in a car accident. If anyone’s cursed to destroy their family, it’s you.”
“You don’t get to bring that up!” Talia screamed.
She hadn’t expected Liora to expose her deepest shame. Her face twisted with rage, and her eyes filled with madness.
Liora opened her mouth to speak again, but before she could, Talia suddenly grabbed one of the metal skewers from the table–and stabbed it straight at her face!

The sharp skewer sliced into Liora’s soft cheek. Blood streamed down her right side.
“What the hell?! Call 911!” one of the nearby diners shouted.
Pain throbbed through Liora’s face, her body frozen–until she spotted Greg standing not far away, watching everything, unmoved.
Talia smirked with satisfaction and stepped closer–then suddenly raised the bloody skewer again, this time aiming straight for Liora’s head-!
