Chapter 18
When she left Los Angeles a month ago, he had publicly announced his relationship with Valerie in a high–profile manner. Now, less than a month later, he was begging her. How ridiculous.
Angela returned to the hotel.
But at the entrance of the hotel, she ran into Shane.
Shane’s voice was magnetic: “Braeden came looking for you at the hotel, but I had security stop him from coming in.‘
Angela replied, “Mm, thank you, Mr. Xandros.”
Shane’s eyes darkened as he said, “Angela, you can just call me by my name. We’re classmates, after all.”
Angela’s lips curved slightly. “Alright, I might have to trouble you these next few days, Shane.”
“It’s no trouble.”
Braeden’s car was also parked at the hotel entrance.
He got out of the car.
Shane’s gaze immediately became guarded.
Angela glanced at Braeden behind her.
“Now, the Taylor family and the Hernandez family have no relationship other than plaintiff and defendant. Mr. Hernandez, let’s meet in court.”

Chapter 18
The Taylor family, regarding the Stanley murder case, instructed their lawyer to pursue only the death penalty.
They would not accept any other sentence.
Braeden watched as Shane and Angela left together.
He was stopped outside the hotel, his chest aching so much he could hardly breathe.

Suddenly, he understood that moment in the bridal shop, when Angela stood above, watching him and Valerie hold their wedding ceremony.

Just seeing Shane and Angela walking together was enough to make his heart feel torn apart.
Angela, I’m sorry.
Two weeks later, the case of Gavyn’s murder was concluded.
Stanley’s sentence was extended.
With three lives taken, he was sentenced directly to death, to be carried out immediately.
Angela read the news reports. After Braeden collected the old man’s body, he stood outside the Xandros Group’s hotel with 999 roses, kneeling on one knee, begging for her forgiveness.
Angela didn’t know why Braeden was doing this.
Nor did she know what had happened between him and Valerie.
But in such a short time, love had faded away.
Angela didn’t want to know the reasons behind it all.

Braeden made a scene at the hotel entrance for several days, insisting on seeing her.
There were too many reporters in Los Angeles watching the spectacle.
Every day, there was a crowd in front of the Xandros Hotel.
It made it impossible for the three of them to leave and catch a flight.
In the end, it was Shane who suggested they use the hotel’s rooftop helipad.
All three looked at Angela.
Angela stood in front of the floor–to–ceiling window. Looking down, she could still see Braeden.
Then she spoke calmly.
“Alright.”
A helicopter left Los Angeles.
Hot on its heels, another helicopter gave chase.
Shane’s phone kept ringing–it was Braeden.
Angela said, “Answer it.”
Shane handed the phone to Angela.
Angela answered the call.
On the other end was Braeden’s angry voice: “Shane, give Angela back to
me! Stop the helicopter, I want to see Angela!”

Angela said, “Braeden.”
Braeden’s choked voice came through instantly: “Angela, please see me, don’t leave me. I’ve already divorced Valerie. She and Grandpa deceived me. Angela, just see me once.”
Angela’s eyes grew moist, but she smiled calmly. “Braeden, I don’t care what happened between you and Valerie. I just want to say, let’s both take care of ourselves. Stop chasing me.”
“Angela, I can’t live without you! I can explain everything to you.
Angela continued, “Braeden, the moment I stopped loving you, any explanation became meaningless to me. Let’s end it here.”
“Angela, I love you!!”
Amid Braeden’s desperate cries.
Angela hung up the phone.

The helicopter behind them finally stopped chasing.
Shane, sitting beside her, watched Angela as she cried.
He wanted to hold her in his arms, but somehow, he couldn’t.
After thinking for a moment, he decided to explain what had happened over the past month.
“Valerie was actually always Sir Hernandez’s woman. Braeden found out, then divorced Valerie and found a few beggars… to take revenge on her.”
Angela looked at Shane through tear–filled eyes and said, “You didn’t have to tell me.”

Shane’s voice was low and heavy: “But I don’t want you to keep it in your heart forever. The main reason Braeden betrayed you back then was because the old man told him that the person who had been giving him blood all these years was Valerie.”
Angela pulled up her sleeve with her fingers.
Although the dense needle marks on her wrist had long since faded, the pain remained.
Tears streamed down her face.
“Shane, do you know? I’m very afraid of pain, but I was even more afraid of Braeden dying. Now, I’m not afraid anymore.”
How much must one love, to disregard their own life just to save someone else.
And how deep must the disappointment be, to completely erase the person you once loved with your life from your world.
This time, it was truly her final farewell to Braeden.
O
Braeden, for the rest of our lives, not seeing thinking of each other is the best ending for us.
