Chapter 10
Before I left the room, Rhett didn’t respond.[]
As I closed the door, I heard muffled sobbing. I figured Rhett would come to his senses.]
Summer and I were getting ready to take a trip to Alaska Bay to clear our heads.[]
Before we set off on our journey, she was still complaining.
“Only you would be soft–hearted enough to go see him.“[]
“If you ask me, when it was blowing up online, we should have jumped on the bandwagon and hyped it up! We could have gone viral by playing up the whole ‘defeating the scumbag and homewrecker‘ angle, and become the hottest influencers of the moment!“[]
I watched her paint grand pictures from her airplane seat.
“We’d have endless money and men. Life would be fucking amazing, not like now.“]
We’d ha
She sighed.
“The hype died down, internet fame’s gone, and life’s back to being a grind! The bastard’s still alive, the homewrecker’s nowhere to be seen. What a fucking waste.”
I stuffed chips in her mouth and asked: “Good?“[]
She nodded.
I added: “Then be quiet.“]
She protested and pointed at the chips: “One more bite.”
“Yes, your majesty.“[]
“That’s more like it.“[
Epilogue
The day Rhett got out of the hospital, he went to visit Wren’s mother.[]
He recalled the day Wren’s mother died–it was drizzling lightly, and he stood with Wren in the exact same spot.
Back then, Wren had no spark of life left in her, and he was so terrified inside.
He was afraid that if he looked away for just a moment, Wren would disappear forever.
So he’d stood before Wren’s mother’s grave and sworn:[]
[I promise I’ll take care of Wren!]]]
[If I don’t take care of Wren, let me die a horrible death! Let me lose Wren forever.]]]
Now, he stood here under the gray sky in light rain, looking at the woman’s gentle smile, and broke down crying.
“I lost Wren.”
“I didn’t take care of her.”
“She doesn’t want me anymore.“]
“She’ll never want me again.“]]

“What am I supposed to do now?“]
The rain got heavier, drowning out the sound of his crying.
But no one could give him an answer…

I traveled everywhere with Summer, and she actually managed to hook up with some ridiculously hot guys.[]
But she didn’t seem to believe in commitment–today she’d be with Guy A, tomorrow with Guy B.[]
I told her:
“Isn’t this basically cheating?”
She seriously corrected me:[]
“How is this cheating? How?“]
“This is clearly,” she raised an eyebrow, “me trying to give every man in the world a home.“[
“Too bad there’s not enough of me to go around. If anyone’s to blame, it’s me for being too irresistible.”
山
Then she pressured me:]
“Wren Morrison! Tell me! If I got caught cheating, what would you do!”]
I immediately raised my hand:[]
“As long as you keep me in the loop! That just means my girl’s got game! I don’t care if you date eight guys at once, just don’t date the same guy eight times! I support you completely!“[]
Summer was delighted.[]
But later she really fucked up-
One day she got sick and posted about it, forgetting to limit who could see it. Several of her boy toys got worried and all showed up at her place.[]
They looked at each other, then started fighting over who Summer loved most.
I never thought that even though Rhett and I had our huge blowout without ending up at the police station, I’d end up there giving a statement because my bestie was juggling too many guys.[]
After our day trip to the police station, I asked Summer:
“Ready to turn over a new leaf?”
She stretched:
“Lesson learned! I’ll never make this mistake again!“]]
