Adeline glanced indifferently at the dress adorned with sequins and a skirt as elaborate as a fanfare, and said lightly, “It’s too flashy, not for me.”
“Oh, come on,” Michelle cajoled, playfully shaking her arm, just try it on; maybe Mr. Justin will like it?”
“Whether he likes it or not, it has nothing to do with me. Adelirte’s tone was icy as she shrugged off Michelle.
Michelle’s smile finally cracked a bit, but she quickly covered it up and turned to the sales assistant, “Wrap this one up. Adeline says she doesn’t want it, but deep down, she must love it.”
The sales assistant hesitated, looking toward Adeline, but was met with such a chilly gaze that she quickly lowered her head and murmured an agreement before fetching a hanger.
Just then, the sound of high heels clacking against the floor came from the entrance. Along with the crisp, rhythmic footsteps, a familiar yet grating voice followed.

“Look, isn’t that Ms. Dustin? Haven’t seen her in years, yet she still manages to look impressive”
Paige strode in on thin heels, her figure elegantly accentuated by a chic Chanel–style suit. She stopped in front of Adeline, sizing her up before curling her lips into a sneer, “However, this is a high–end boutique; I wonder if certain people can still afford to shop here?”
As soon as she finished, Alicia, who had walked in with her, chimed in, “Paige, how can you say that? She’s from the Layton family, after all. Even if she’s fallen on hard times, she’s still better off than us ordinary folks,”
Though seemingly defending Adeline, the disdain in Alicia’s tone was even more cutting than Paige’s.
Eden, standing aside, watched their aggressive demeanors and couldn’t help but whisper, “Miss, maybe we should try another
store….
“No need.” Adeline cut her off, raising her head to meet Paige’s eyes directly. Her black eyes were emotionless. “Say what you
want to say.
Paige was slightly infuriated by her calm, almost indifferent attitude, but maintained a veneer of elegance, “I just find it admirable that someone who’s been through so much turmoil still has the heart to attend a charity gala.”
“Charity gala?” Adeline chuckled mockingly, “If I’m not mistaken, you’re invited too. Seems like there are more and more of us lowly folks around.j
Her remark struck a nerve with Paige, whose face soured instantly, but she quickly regained composure, retorting with an even sharper tone, “Even if I’m lowly, I’m still better than some who’ve been to jail. At least, I don’t have a criminal record.”
Alicia covered her mouth, giggling maliciously, looking at Adeline with spite, “Exactly, everyone knows she’s the beauty of Vale City. I wonder if anyone at the gala will bid high enough to take her home as a decorative vase.”
When Eden heard this, he could no longer hold back. He stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Adeline, and declared angrily, “Enough! Watch your mouths!”
“Look, she even brought a bodyguard,” Alicia scoffed, her tone even more spiteful, “But that makes sense, some people can’t survive without resorting to such lowly tactics, can they?”
Eden trembled with anger, but Adeline held out a hand to stop him. She stepped forward, facing Paige directly. Her face was as cold as ice but stunningly beautiful, silencing the room for a moment…
“You can keep barking,” her voice was calm but sharp as a blade, “but remember, this isn’t a kennel. I don’t mind reminding you of your place.”
Paige was left speechless by her retort, and Alicia’s face turned red in a flash.

The room fell silent. Even in elite circles, Justin was a figure who commanded attention. Not only was he a leading contender to take over the Kyree Group, but his name was often the subject of social gatherings.
His deep, inscrutable gaze swept the room, pausing briefly when he saw Adeline, then he walked straight toward her.
“It seems I’ve arrived just in time,” his voice was low and magnetic, carrying an irresistible authority.
Alicia and Paige instinctively stepped back, while Michelle quickly approached him, her tone overly sweet yet eager to please. Justin, long time no see! What brings you here today?”
