Chapter 11 She Changed His Bandages
At dinner time, Claudia arrived in the dining room, full of anticipation.
Nero had promised her–he said he would eat with her.
But the room was empty. He hadn’t come down yet.
Claudia sat down and waited patiently.

As the scheduled dinner time passed and there was still no sign of him, she couldn’t help but glance upstairs. “Where’s Mr.
Nero?”
Wendy replied coolly, “Mr. Nero is busy.”
“He said he’d eat with me. Did you call him?”
“I did. He said he was busy. Madam should just eat
at first”
Claudia gave her a look but didn’t argue. She stood up and went upstairs.
Wendy’s face darkened. She moved to stop her, but Claudia sidestepped her easily and continued up.
At the study, Claudia knocked twice. Simon opened the door and was visibly surprised. “Madam?”
“Is Mr. Nero still busy?” she asked.
Before Simon could answer, Nero’s low voice came from inside. “What is it?”
Simon quickly stepped aside.
With nothing blocking her view now, Claudia saw him at his desk, setting aside a document as he turned to look at the door. His profile was striking–handsome, regal, and exuding quiet power.
Her heart skipped before she could stop it.
How did I not see how attractive this man was in my past life?
“It’s dinner time,” she said softly, one hand on the doorframe.
Nero checked the clock and finally remembered his promise.
“That’s on me. I forgot, Sorry”
“It’s okay! I came to get you, didn’t I?” Claudia rushed past Simon before he could react and began pushing Nero’s wheelchair herself
Simon had planned to step in, but when Nero didn’t say a word, he quietly withdrew his foot.
In the dining room-
Wendy’s expression shified when she saw Claudia actually bring Nero down.
Nero glanced at the already–laid dishes and said, “Next time, don’t come up yourself. You can start eating first. Just have at
servant call me.”
Claudia glanced at Wendy. “I did ask Wendy to call you. She said you were busy and wouldn’t be coming.”
Wendy stiffened.
She felt Nero’s gaze fall on her and quickly said, “I thought I did… I must’ve forgotten. My memory’s not what it used to be…”
Claudia smiled sweetly. “That’s understandable. But to avoid this kind of thing in the future, why don’t we let someone else handle it? I almost missed the chance to have dinner with my husband”

She leaned into Nero and gently shook his hand. “Right, honey?”

The unexpected intimacy made Nero freeze slightly, but he looked at her delicate hand on his arm–and didn’t pull away.
For a brief second, his gaze unfocused. He didn’t even look at Wendy, “Mm. She’s right”
Wendy was speechless.
She nearly choked on her own breath.
It was just a small thing! Why was she being treated like she’d committed a serious crime?! And Mr. Nero–he was actually indulging her!
Seeing Wendy’s face. Claudia grinned in satisfaction.
After dinner, Belle arrived.
He wasn’t just Nero’s subordinate–he also served as his doctor.
As Claudia returned to her room, she ran into him and Raine outside the master bedroom. Raine was holding a medical kit
Belle was instructing her on how to change Nero’s bandages.
Claudia’s eyes narrowed.
Bandages?
Nero had a wife–why would anyone else need to handle that?
Raine caught sight of her and smiled smugly, deliberately raising the medical kit in her hand as if to flaunt it.
“Madam, if you have something to say, it’ll have to wait. I’m about to go change Mr. Nero’s bandages.”
She turned, about to walk in.
But the kit in her hand was suddenly gone.
Claudia now held it.
“What are w
doing?!” Raine’s expression cracked.
“i appreciate the thought,” Claudia said calmly, “but I’ll take care of this.”
“Based on what?”
Claudia smiled. “Based on my relationship with Mr. Nero. I’m his wife. Why would he need anyone else?”
Ignoring Raipe’s sour expression, Claudia walked inside.
Nero had just come out of the shower. His bathrobe hung loosely over his shoulders, revealing part of his defined chest. Claudia only got a quick glance before her mind flashed back to the night before–and her ears went red.
“You?” Nero looked–surprised.
That one word killed her mood.
Why not her? Who was he expecting–Raine?
If she hadn’t walked in just now, Raine would’ve already been here.
“I came to help you with your bandages”
Nero hesitated. “You don’t need to. Go rest. Let someone else do it.”

“Who exactly?” Claudia blurted, then quickly softened her tone. “I’m your wife. Who could be more appropriate than me?”
Technically, they hadn’t registered the marriage because of his injury, but that was just a matter of time.
“So I’ll do it,” she said stubbornly. “I want to.”
Nero was briefly speechless.
He had only intended to spare her the sight of his wound, thinking it might scare her. But seeing how firm she was, something in him softened.
Alright.
draw.
The injury was on his lower right leg. When the bandage came off, the wound looked fierce and raw.
Claudia’s hands trembled slightly.
Nero lowered his eyes to look at her kneeling in front of him. His expression unreadable. “Does it scare you?”
No,” she mumbled, retrieving fresh gauze. “I just it must hurt a lot.”
She wasn’t scared. She was heartbroken.
Nero was startled. He hadn’t expected that answer.
“It doesn’t hurt,” he said quietly.
Claudia didn’t believe it.
She focused carefully, treating the wound and wrapping it again with clean bandages before letting out a breath.
“All done. Go rest now,” Nero said gently.
Claudia nodded, packed up the kit, and headed out.
Just outside the door, she found Raine still standing there. The moment Claudia stepped out, Raine shot her a resentful look.
Claudia frowned. “Why are you still here?”
“Mr. Nero asked me to change his bandages,” Raine snapped.
Claudia paused. “He asked you?”
“Obviously! Hmph!” Raine sneered, “So what if you stole my chance? He still kicked you out in the end, didn’t he?”
Claudia said nothing, just lowered her eyes and returned to her room.
The next morning, to everyone’s surprise, Nero appeared at breakfast.
But Claudia was still feeling down.
She sat quietly through the meal, head low, not her usual bubbly self–and Nero noticed something was off.
