Chapter 8

I was utterly shocked. “What is going on? I’ve been diligently staying in the psychiatric institution all these days!”
Eleanor said in a sarcastic tone, “Veronica! You’re stupid yourself, and you gave birth to an even stupider daughter!”
Ms. Veronica was nonchalant. “I admit I’m stupid, but I’m rich! Whether my daughter is stupid or not is none of your business, but my daughter will also be rich!”
The live stream instantly exploded.
[You two rich mother–daughter imposters, stop pretending! Claire Reynolds definitely blew up the school, there’s no point in denying it now!]
[So what if they’re rich? Does wealth give you the right to do whatever you please?]
[What are the police waiting for? Arrest that Claire Reynolds immediately!]
[Besides, if you’re rich, own up to it! Just build another lab for the school, problem solved, right?]

The focus of the crowd shifted back to Ms. Veronica. Ms. Veronica stood there, as haughty as a pampered cat. “Donating ten new labs to the school wouldn’t be difficult, but why should we admit to something our Claire didn’t do? Eleanor, you haven’t forgotten Julian, have you?”
Hearing that name, a crack finally appeared on the triumphant Eleanor’s composed face.

Who was Julian Blackwood? Everyone present was discussing it, but no one knew. I was hearing this name for the first time too. Ms. Veronica continued, “Eleanor, you relentlessly pursued him back then, but sadly, he loved me. We married soon after graduati- on, and you practically married at the same time I did. I thought you had moved on, and I was genuinely happy for you. Later, I bec ame pregnant, and soon after, you became pregnant too. I was initially delighted; our children could be playmates. But in the midd ie of my pregnancy, Julian suddenly vanished. I wanted to report him missing, but you solemnly swore to me that you had divined his return. To my surprise, he really did return a few days later, but be seemed like an entirely different person. I even wondered if someone was impersonating him. I was very curious where he had been and what he had done during that time, but soon after, he fell ill. I was nearing my due date then and couldn’t go to the hospital to care for him. Before he died, he told me it was a family illness and that I shouldn’t investigate further. When I found out you had swapped our children, I immediately went to the hospital to retrieve Julian’s medical records from that year.”
The butler handed a medical file to the police. Eleanor tried to snatch it, but the officer was quick and prevented her. I leaned closer to look. The file stated that Julian Blackwood had died of immune rejection. The doctors suspected he had undergone a full–body skin transplant.
A full–body skin transplant?! I could hardly believe my eyes. What kind of horror story was this? The live stream audience was also
in an uproar.
[Could this be some ancient secret of human skin grafting?!]
if this Juhan isn’t the real Julian, then who is he?]
