Chapter 30
Camilla heard the employees of the R&D department echo behind her.
She wasn’t surprised.
Even Charles’s good friends, who had always looked down on others, could treat Ophelia well. It was enough to prove that her ability to win. people’s hearts was extraordinary.
Ava was a little anxious. “Nina, stop talking nonsense here.”
Ava knew Camilla’s personality. When she was in university, she was a person who did not fight for anything. Although Camilla was a genius, she did not have any arrogance at all. She was the easiest to talk to.
Sometimes, Camilla would rather suffer a little than make things difficult for others. She was simply a good person.
Ava frowned worriedly. With so many people on Ophelia’s side, Camilla was probably going to be pressed on again and make herself give in.
Camilla curled her lips and said, “In that case, I’ll make a statement here today.”
Ava felt helpless. She could almost guess what Camilla would say next. She would definitely say that she would not fight with Ophelia for the position of manager.
“Both the office and the position of the manager of the R&D
department?” Camilla’s cold and calm voice was loud and clear as she spoke. “I won’t give it up.”
Ophelia’s smile froze on her face.
Chapter 30
Ava’s eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. Once it sank in, she was so excited she almost let out a cheer.
Camilla spoke calmly, “When I joined the company seven years ago, I signed a ten–year contract. Unless I resign, my position as manager of R&D is guaranteed for the full term. I’ll be back at work in a couple of days.”
She raised her voice so everyone in the department could hear clearly. “Of course, if anyone wants to follow Ophelia, I won’t stop you. I’ll suggest to Mr. Hawthorne that we open a second R&D department. You’re free to choose.”
Everything Camilla had done before was for Charles, but from now on, she was fighting for herself.
Camilla had worked herself to the bone to earn her position as R&D manager–almost lost her life for it. No one was going to take what was
hers.
Camilla didn’t want to waste any more time on Ophelia and the others. She turned and walked toward her office.
Back when she first moved into that office, she had secretly installed a private safe.
Inside were several important R&D documents. That was what she came back for.
“Wait.” Nina grabbed Camilla’s arm, her voice sharp. “Camilla, you’re clearly abusing your power as Mrs. Hawthorne to get back at Ophelia. Have you no shame?”
That was too much. David frowned and was about to step in, but Camilla’s face turned cold. She jerked her arm away and, in the same motion, slapped Nina across the face.

Slap. The crisp sound silenced the room.
David stared at Camilla in disbelief.
He remembered Camilla as gentle and soft–spoken. She never raised her voice, let alone hit anyone. But ever since she woke up from her coma, she had become fierce.
David snapped out of it and quickly dismissed the onlookers. “Don’t you all have work to do? What are you standing around for?”
As the executive assistant, his words carried weight. Everyone scattered.
Ava looked back at Camilla again and again, barely able to suppress her grin. Her eyes sparkled with admiration.

Camilla.
Nina finally came to her senses, her face twisted with anger. “How dare you hit me?”
“Sorry,” Camilla said flatly. “I can’t see. I react strongly to physical contact. Next time, don’t touch me. Also, what did you mean by me getting back at Ophelia?”
