The officer, after a further inspection of the room, sighed. “It seems Miss Shaw was very thorough. She wanted to make sure you had no way to deny the evidence. Not many people think to use a live–stream camera. Rest assured, we will not let them get away with this. That includes every other person who appears in these videos.”
Rosalind, seeing the three men pinned to the ground, swallowed hard and tried to look away. But I wasn’t about to let her go.
I pointed at her. “And Rosalind Kane. I’m pressing charges for theft and aggravated assault.”
Rosalind’s head snapped up. “You have no proof! I deny everything!” she shrieked.
I sneered “Everything you’re wearing, everything you own… which of it didn’t belong to my daughter first? You dare say you didn’t steal?”
They gave it to me willingly!” she shrieked, pointing at the three men. “I didn’t steal anything!”
But they all shook their heads, accusing her of lying, insisting she had taken the items herself.
Just then, my assistant brought in a man in tattered clothes.
Rosalind paled “What are you doing here? Get out!” she hissed.
My assistant looked at her in disgust. “Isn’t this your father, Mr. Kane? What, you don’t recognize your own dad anymore?”
I looked at the man. “Your daughter is draped in gold and diamonds. Why are you dressed like a beggar?”
At my words, he lunged at Rosalind, slapping her repeatedly across the face. “You little bitch! You told me you were miserable living in the Shaw house! You had me bring all those dogs here, promising you’d buy me a mansion once you got rid of the Shaw girl! It was all a lie, wasn’t it?”
Rosalind tried to deny it, but he slapped her again. “If someone hadn’t told me, I never would have known you and your mother were living so well behind my back all these years! You dese rve to die!
The officer frowned. “What’s this about dogs?”
Mr. Kane spat on the ground. “Rosalind told me Sophie was allergic to dogs, so she had me catch strays and release them on the property. You think she just found that many strays wan- dering around?”
Rosalind’s face was ashen. She sobbed, denying everything. But her father produced their text messages, and it all matched up.
“You and that mother of yours played me for a fool,” he snarled. “I won’t let you get away with it.”
After a long silence, Lucas and the others finally spoke. ‘So it was all an act… the kind, beautiful soul… you framed Sophie! You ruined
Rosalind’s eyes were red, but she held her head high. “Ruined you? You weren’t complaining when we were in bed! You wanted to kick Sophie out and take over the Shaw fortune just as much as I did! Don’t you dare act so innocent!”
The officer cut off their argument and had them all taken away.
As they were leaving, I called out, “There’s one more. Rosalind’s mother, Mrs. Kane, our housekeeper. I suspect Rosalind transferred a significant amount of stolen assets to her. She’s also missing. You should look for her as well.”
The officer nodded. “We’ll be in touch.”
touch.
The case involved so many people that it quickly became a national story. The public was outraged, not only cursing the three men but also protesting outside Mr. Warren’s company, acc- using him of trying to destroy a young woman’s life.
