Chapter 6
I shook my
head.
“Hard to say if Aria’s just a clueless idiot… or someone else’s pawn.”
Lucian didn’t push for more. Instead, he offered to drive me home.
Just as I was stepping out of the car, my phone rang again. Mrs. Russell.
“Miss Scarlett, please–come back to the hospital. I’m out of options. You’re the only one who might be able to save him.”
In the background, I could hear Leo screaming.
“I said no amputation! You’re all buying into Scarlett’s lies! My legs can still be healed!”
“Aria said this is normal. Once my bones and flesh regenerate, I’ll be back on my feet!”
“I only made it worse because I tripped!”
Mrs. Russell’s voice cracked, raw with desperation.
“Leo, the wolf surgeons said if we wait any longer, you’ll die. Please, I’m begging you–let them operate!”
Then–crash. A bottle shattered. Leo roared again. Mrs. Russell returned to the line, voice shaking.
“Miss Scarlett… they don’t even know if they can pull off the surgery. I need you. Please–I’ll wait at the hospital.”
Lucián, still in the car, glanced at me. Without a word, he started driving.
After a long silence, he finally asked, “Are you really not going to save him?”
I rolled the window down, letting the icy wind bite my skin.
“No. I just want to watch him suffer.”
Lucian’s hands tightened on the steering wheel.
“Do you hate him that much?”
“Far as I know, there’s no blood feud between you two.”
I gave a bitter smile.
“He owes me a life.”
Then I closed my eyes. End of conversation.
Lucian understood the cue and stayed quiet.
When we arrived, the scene at the hospital was chaos, Leo had thrown every doctor out of his room.
Mrs. Russell stood outside, eyes puffy and red.
“Miss Scarlett… please, can you just talk to him? Maybe you can convince him to go through with the surgery.”
I sighed, “I can’t help you. He doesn’t trust a word I say. As far as Leo’s concerned, I’m the villain who ruined him.”
Mrs. Russell’s face twisted–rage and helplessness fighting for space. And then, with no other options left, she made a call.
A few minutes later, a Beta escorted
She dropped to her knees beside Leo’s bed, tears spilling like it was opening night.
“Leo… are you hurting?-I don’t know what went wrong. My medicine was perfect. I swear it was…”
Leo reached out to stroke her hair, but the movement pulled on his legs.
His whole body went rigid with pain. His face turned ghost–white.
After a few agonizing breaths, he rasped out, “Aria… tell me this doesn’t mean amputation. It’s just the healing process, reforming or whatever…”
Aria looked down at his blood–soaked, decaying legs. She remembered what Mrs. Russell had told her.

She bit her lip, her voice barely holding steady.
“Leo…. you have to listen to the doctors. They say if you don’t do it… you won’t survive.”
