Chapter 3
Chapter 4
This slap was delivered with full force, and Ruth’s face instantly turned crimson.
She instinctively covered her face, her mind buzzing and blank.
“Anne! What were you doing!”
When she realized it, Ruth’s anger flared up and she raised her hand, wanting to slap back.
But this slap did not land on Anne’s face, instead it was intercepted by Garrett’s outstretched hand.
Garrett grabbed her wrist, his tone filled with hidden anger. “Ruth, Anne didn’t provoke you, why did you hit her?”
Ruth suddenly withdrew her numb hand and trembled as she spoke, “Did I hit her? Garrett, ask these passersby who hit whom first!”
Upon hearing these words, Anne immediately wore a pitiful expression, with tears welling up
in her eyes.
“Garrett, it was you who said I was timid and encouraged me to find opportunities to build up my courage. That’s why I wanted to try confronting the CEO’s wife in public to test my bravery. Otherwise, I couldn’t find a suitable chance. But the wife was so fierce, I was really scared. Sob sob.
After understanding the cause and effect, Garrett furrowed his brow and said, “How could you hit someone when I asked you to build up your courage?”
It was Ruth who drove.
Anne sniffed and tears rolled down her cheeks like broken beads.
“Sorry, I was so foolish. You said the lady has a good temper, so I thought I could hit her and she wouldn’t get angry. I didn’t expect…”
As soon as she cried, Garrett’s heart melted, and he didn’t care about being angry anymore. He wiped away her tears while comforting
her.
“Okay, no one blames you, stop crying, be good.”
Watching the scene in front of her, Ruth felt both angry and hurt, and finally couldn’t help but shout loudly.
“Garrett, it was me who got beaten, why should you forgive me? Anne, what innocence are you pretending? Who would have thought of using beating as a method to build courage!”
Anne was so scared that she shivered, crying even more heartbreakingly, unable to catch her breath, almost passing out.
Garrett felt heartbroken and casually said, “She’s just a little girl. How strong could her slap be? Do you really have to make such a big deal out of it? She’s feeling so guilty right now that she might faint from crying, Ruth. Let it go.”
After saying these words, he picked up Anne and left.
Ruth couldn’t believe her ears. She was completely shocked and felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.
Finally, she didn’t know how she got home.
She kept telling herself not to cry, so she held back her tears all the way, and in the end, her entire eye sockets turned red.
When the maid returned home, she was startled by the red marks on her face. She quickly asked what had happened and inquired if she had been bullied. She then proceeded to call Garrett, asking him to come back and seek justice for her.
“No need.” she softly interjected.
All her pain, he had inflicted with his own hands.
Ruth sat by the window for an hour applying an ice pack. The redness and swelling on her face had just subsided a bit when she received a message from Anne.
“Madam, have you arrived home? I also arrived at the hospital. Garrett was so worried about me. I just fainted, and he immediately

booked the entire VIP ward and arranged for more than ten doctors to examine me.”
“By the way, how is your injury? It’s all my fault for not being careful. It must be very painful, right? Why don’t you come to the hospital now? I’ll generously assign you a doctor to examine and see if it will disfigure you.”
Ruth glanced at it and immediately forwarded it to Garrett.
He didn’t reply until dawn.
“Anne was also well–intentioned.”
Ruth laughed and tears came out.
The next second, she sent a voice message directly.
“How about marrying her right away? I’ll step aside and wish you both a hundred years of happiness.”
This time, Garrett replied instantly.
“Ruth, why are you speaking angrily again? I have told you many times that you are my only wife, and these people are just for fun. Don’t worry so much, okay? Rest early, I will come back to accompany you tomorrow.”
Upon seeing this news, Ruth felt a sense of powerlessness, as if punching cotton.
She chuckled self–deprecatingly and didn’t want to talk to him about these boring nonsense anymore, so she turned off her phone.
Chapter 5
The next day, Ruth finished her lunch and went back to her old house.
She wore the imperial green jewelry set, which was said to be a family heirloom, given to her by her mother–in–law on her wedding day.
Unfortunately, early in the morning, Garrett’s parents flew to Dryscar Island for vacation, and she was left empty–handed.
Ruth asked and upon hearing the butler say that he would not return until a month later, she handed him the things and left.
After going to the beauty salon for a spa, she returned home carrying over a dozen pairs of earrings she had just fallen in love with.
The light in the living room was on.
Garrett sat on the sofa, with many gift boxes piled up on the table.
He heard her come back, put down his phone, and glanced at her.
“Did you return the family heirloom, as the butler said?”
Ruth nodded.
Garrett sighed slightly and sat down beside her, saying, “Are you still angry? Stop making a fuss. For the sake of all the gifts I prepared for you, can you forgive me this time?”
Even if she returned the family heirloom, his initial reaction was surprisingly that she was still angry.
Instead, she wanted to cut ties with him completely.
He was so certain, certain that she loved him and would never leave him.
That’s why he was so reckless, that’s why he came up with such absurd ideas of each doing their own thing, and that’s why he repeatedly hurt her heart by being with other women.
Ruth remained silent and simply glanced at the familiar logo on the box, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes.
“What I wanted was something unique and one–of–a–kind.”
Garrett didn’t know how she knew the same thing, and he also picked one for Anne, slightly taken aback.
“Ruth, you misunderstood. I genuinely wanted to apologize to you, which is why I asked Anne to choose on my behalf. When I saw that she liked it too, I bought two. Can you please not mind these small matters?”
Small matter, small matter.
Ruth had already grown tired of this word.
She overturned the gifts in one go, “Gifts can be prepared in countless numbers, and your love can also be divided into countless halves, right? Garrett, I only regret now…”
Her eyes turned red.
I regret why I trusted you back then.
I regret why I married you.
Although the words were not yet finished, Garrett had already understood the implied meaning behind them.
He couldn’t sit still any longer and stood up, grabbing her hand. “Ruth, you have to know that my heart truly belongs to you. Otherwise,
I wouldn’t have married you. Just wait for me a few more years, wait a little longer. Once I’ve had my fill of playing around, I will definitely come back to you.”
All this talk, it’s still these meaningless lies.
Ruth no longer had the desire to continue listening.
